Building wheels is actually farely easy. If you dont have the right tools its impossible though. Standard 2 and 3 cross is easy enough for any bike novice. I laced my H plus son's and my Velocity aerohead sets. Took a while!
And Nashville is exploding with the track bike scene. They can thank Skumlife for that :)
The first step is admitting you have a problem... :D This is how I'm getting with my longboards.
It sucks, I have NO ONE to ride my bike with anymore. All the super-trendy fixie kids aren't riding anymore. Those of us who actually like RIDING the bike (as opposed to driving it downtown on roof racks, taking it off and riding it around downtown/standing with it in groups, then putting it back on the racks and driving home) are stuck riding alone. :(
Thats lame sauce. We make rides meant to break ones legs and people just keep showing up.
Why the sudden lack of support?

Because 90% of the kids here riding fixies ARE kids, they're all like 15-18, with $1000 Felts and Masis that their parents bought them, so of course they have no appreciation for them, unlike people like me who started out with a $300 shit bike, ripped it apart, and rebuilt it (MYSELF) into a pretty damn respectable whip. They all got into it for the accessories and the fashion, and they liked to look cool standing over them more than they rode them. But now that the warm weather is gone, they're all gone. Fuck 'em, just leaves more open road for the peope that actually like to ride.

Gotcha..
I've been thru a bagillion bikes in a matter of 2 years. I think at this point I like building them more than riding them. lol

Honestly, I think that's how I am, too. My favorite part of building anything is just standing back and admiring it when I'm done. Then I'm like, "ok, time to tear it apart and make it better, or build another one". This is exactly why my E30 never stays in one form or another for very long. I think it's the ADD...

Mine is a bit of a east coast classic, havent ridden it much lately, its a Spooky June Bug, and yes, those are Manitou EFC's :)
and my wifes old Cannondale i think this was their first stab at full suspension, both bikes have mismash of parts as I broke most of the stuff thru the years
