Holy shit.. I wonder how fast that is... My dad owned a 1970 VW bus from 1972 till 2000... he sold it because it was just straight up WORN out and didn't want to deal with it anymore. He got a 91 civic dx sedan.

I think the impact speed for that test is faster than a Vanagon could actually obtain.

When your legs are part of the front crash structure of a vehicle, that vehicle should be avoided. My wife has a friend who is completely disabled now because he got in an accident in one of those deathtraps.

driving one of those at any decent speed could be compared to strapping yourself to the front of a Ride-On bus

an unloaded van would not suffer nearly that same fate. I was hit by a mid 70's vw bus in my jeep broad sided, they had the tire on the front of theirs too. they were probably going 25 when they hit me after slowing from 35 or so. they ran the red light, nobody got hurt.

Shit, I wonder if that isn't him driving the one in the crash test video?

                          I kid, I kid.

i think that if VW put all of the thought and engineering into safety on their earlier vehicles, they would probably have cost almost double the amount that they did back in the day.
can anyone compare the price of a Volvo of the same era VW a similarly classed VW?

Nonetheless, its an interesting video, and I do agree that the speed of the test may have been a bit faster than what the car/truck/van was intended to attain.
