there's a lot in salem selling a stock alpenweiss for $7995. I looked at it, and it has a crappy respray (sprayed right over rock chips, overspray, spider cracks in topcoat, etc.). otherwise it was pretty straight. Bet it's still for sale. They wouldn't budge at all. Yup 4 months later, they're still trying to sell this thing for 3 times its worth. I bet they could get 4k to the right buyer (mom buying teenager first car), but 8k? Almost as bad as the guy who tried to sell me his 'classic' eta for 10k.

When I first tried to buy an e30 5 years ago it was impossible for me to find one that wasnt a rust bucket for under 6k! I remember staying up late searching E30sport (i think that was the name) and e30 net I had to search for 2 years to find the one I have now! (bought for 1800$)

The best was a henna 325i, but AC didnt work, tranny leaked and needed a timing belt job. He had a sign on the car for 2.5k but told me that was a mistake and it would cost me 5.5k.

People who dont know shit about bmw's think they can charge high prices for a basketcase just because it has a roundel.

That's why when I bought this car in 2005, I decided to buy it even though it was an eta. I really wanted an i or is, but couldn't find one in good shape for under $5k, which at the time was still more than I could probably afford. Incredible condition, nearly bone stock, well maintained, enthusiast owned, straight body, great interior, and ran better and pulled harder than any eta I'd driven before. At $2500, it was a bargain.

I thought your car had a salvage title? (not trying to be a dick..)

Yeah, it took me 2 years because I kept passing up on eta's and 318's. The car I have now was the only "IS" that I ever found.

Maybe I am not such a good car buyer, but I just paid $6200 for my 1991 318is with just a tad over 72k on the clock, and yes, it is very clean - not perfect, but VERY clean - your thoughts on this purchase?

About a year ago, my wife was telling me about this import lot that was selling an e30 vert. I went to check it out.. it was pretty straight, no tools, some of the interior leather had come apart at the seams, but get this, the guy wanted like $13K! I almost choked as well, I actually went to go look at it again, to see if I missed something important like a turbo, or SOMETHING. The guy comes out to talk to me and asks me what I think. I told him it was outrageously overpriced, then he signs his death warrant... "Well, boy, you don't know anything about BMW's, then, cuz I've been selling them like this for xx years." I swear I wanted to punch him in the mouth. My wife's eyebrows even went up when he said that, because she thought I was going to go off. About a month later, the price was down in the $10K range, then it disappeared.
                          What a tool.

72k is very low mileage, still prob a bit high, but for a very low mileage car that is in superb condition, I might pay 5k. I looked at some beat on cars selling for 4.5k$ They sold eventually so I suppose there is a market in the 4-6k range.
