NEED HOUSE ADVICE. Scam? possibly. HELP!

My parents bought a house in clarksville, IN and had a home inspector check it out. The inspector said there was small to minimal mold and it wasn't a big deal. After me my father and some of my friends started remodeling the kitchen we found a lot of black mold. The home inspector seems to be a liar. We got a quote for 3000 to remove the mold. what should we do? we already invested 3000 just riping shit out and replacing a couple floor joices. and more in Down payment.

We started "Killing" the mold with bleach. Ive been told that it works and told it doesn't. But it just seemed like to much. Plus didn't want to risk our health.

    Need advice asap.

    Thanks,
    zach

Well, here is the first link I found: http://www.toxic-black-mold-info.com/moldclean.htm. It seems bleach will work, but you'll have a lot more work to do to mitigate the problem. I would consult a lawyer in regards to the home inspector.

It's really hard for you to tell if the mold is toxic or not. But it's defenitely nothing to be messed with. There is a kit you can buy at a hardware store that you leave out in the house for a period of time and then package up and send to the lab that they specify. They will send you the results and a recommendation of what to do.

But seriously, don't try and kill it all yourself, you probably won't get it. And 99% of the time you can't just treat it. It must be removed. Normally you have to remove drywall, insulation and possible part of the framing to get rid of it all. It sucks, but you've got a project ahead of you. And be careful, mold can cause you to be sick.

Did your parents not buy a home warranty?
Also why is your inspector not liable?????
Do your parents have a lawyer?
            Yours truly,

If that home inspecter was a pro, as in legally able to bill for his service - he should be bonded. If so, find his written statement & take it to a lawyer. Any money the lawyer recovers is more than they have in hand right now.

This should be easily remedied in court if there is proper documentation. Then your parents' would have grounds to back out, and recover their money & their good credit rating.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Well the main flag to your parents should have been the inspector saying there was minimal mold. It is hard for them to see every nook and crany when inspecting and if they were able to see or detect some you can bet there will be alot more that is unseen. I am not trying to say anything bad about your parents or you but with my experiences with buying and fixing homes for flipping is if the inspector finds anything like this, either mold or insect damage, that you can almost gaurantee that there will be alot more unseen until you do the tear out.

Bleech will kill any and all mold spores but anything that is affected that is made of organic material, ie sheet rock etc... , needs to be replaced. If it is on the wood structure it can be scrubbed with bleech and water and a brush. Just make sure you are wearing a good breathing filter and not the throw away paper kind.

Dont let this get your parents down as it is a part of the home flipping process and can be remedied easily. I would not if I were them let it go back in foreclosure as that just goes against their credit if there is a loan and if they paid out of pocket then they could loose far more money than they have invested.
