The door men at clubs are to check ID's to keep underage out or to band the ones who can or can not drink while inside. They also collect the cover charge to get in for the evening. Their job is also to protect the club from those who cause trouble from either getting in or if someone inside is causing trouble so they eject the trouble makers.

All clubs do preferencial treatment to the VIPS or regulars who are connected inside the clubs. And what you see in the movies when they are just letting certain people in, does happen but more because the club is rented out for the evening for private use or the club is very exclusive and thats how they regulate who they want inside. I have been to some of them before and they can let the place be busy inside or not and if they create a huge line outside the club it gets the place all hyped up for others to be there the next week as most clubbers want a hopping place and not a dull club. Its all about the energy the place has one way or another.

I use to run the money collection at a friends club and honestly there isnt a more fun part time side job to have ever.

Anyone from south florida can attest to the prferencial treatment some clubs practice. I personally don't go to clubs, but I have friends down there who don't wait on line at all.

There used to be a club bar in VA beach called the edge that had a guy in a red shirt outside on the weekends. He would only let certian people in, it was cool though b/c it was a skate/surf bar and there is a TON of military there.... Blunt can attest to the relationship between most skaters and most military. So it was a cool bar.

There is a very nice lounge on the 51st floor of The Rio in Las Vegas. You take an elevator to get up there. When I was in Vegas last, there were two large, polite gentlemen at the elevator landing downstairs making sure you had a collar on your shirt, I wore a jacket. They look you over and invite you to go up. I imagine if you were shit-faced or all amped up and acting like an ass, or were wearing shorts, a T, and flipflops, they would recommend you party elsewhere. They appeared to be fully capable of ensuring that you weren't going up without their blessing.

This was 10 years ago though, things may have changed.

The ones I've been to have been hosted by a certain person or persons that rent out the club/venue for the night. The certain person(s) gives a list to the bouncer of the people they are allowing in, usually friends that said they can come or friends of friends that they don't mind being there. If the bouncer does his job right he'll ask for ID so people can't jack your name and leave you outside, having to call the host and have the fakes booted from the party.

In my minimal experience they check IDs and make sure people are of age. They don't people to go in there and cause trouble more or less. That is the whole idea.

Ok so i dont really like "clubbing", never have gone or anything and never will. But why is there a guy, at least on tv and movies that only lets certain people in? I guess they could be considered a bouncer but not really. Is this in real life too? If so why do they do it?
