My Dad bought a 52" 1080p Samsung LCD. It's fawesome. We went back 6 months after when the price dropped, and the salesman gave us free extended warranty because it was too late to pricematch. So it turned out nice.

      Keep it slideways!!

DO NOT buy a Vizio. I can't stress this enough, they are piles of shit. Also stay away from Mitsubishi.

LG makes a great looking LCD, as well as Samsung. Just about anything Pioneer is good, Panasonic is also good.

Does Pioneer Elite still own all? Or not?

I knew they had the rear projection market by the short hairs - but is an Elite Plasma really all they claim for the price?

I keep hearing Samsung is hard to top - and if they only ask 1/2 of Elite kind of dough then it's a no-brainer.

I saw an ad for some new Pioneer (non-Elite) that they were touting as the next, biggest, best type TV - Anybody know what I'm talking about? I didn't catch a model # or series.

I have yet to see one next to a Fujitsu Plasmavision. But as it stands, the Fujitsu is king.

              ^^^^

Shows how current I am. I never knew Fujitsu was in the market.

I fell off the boat when I got my projection Elite, and the ES receiver.

Now the only way I'll upgrade is when stuff takes an expensive dump. It's kind of nice not having the latest & greatest - I play games on my Elite & don't care - supposed to be a big no-no for the burn-in scare. I figure by the time I burn mine, it will probably die - so then I'll get into a HD monitor. Hopefully another used Elite.

True. Youd be better of watching your 480p tv, and buying wheels or something.

I still have a 480p flatscreen Samsung CRT, running digital cable over component, and it STILL looks better than those shitboxes.

The only really crappy thing about Panasonics is that they don't have a return policy on defective sets. They have to be serviced in the field.

Sony is also usually a good bet, but I have seen a lot of the newer Bravias that even calibrated, looked like ass.

So would you skip the Wally World ones entirely then? I was kind of thinking of replacing the bedroom 27" tube with a mid sized Bravia or whatever the ones Wally has are - I was just going to stick with a Sony, as I personally have had decent luck in life with their CE's.

Well, if Wal-Mart TV's are anything like head units, they get the shit version. I'll stay away from Wal-Mart.

I've heard and seen good things from LG, and they have good prices. Maybe I'll try to find one Black Friday...

It's really hit and miss with Wal-Mart, mostly miss. The truth is that most of the "high-end" electronics that Wal-Mart sells are slightly dumbed-down, stripped down versions of their Best Buy counterparts. You're really much better off staying away from them altogether for any kind of home theater.

The best thing to do, if you can, is to get your TV from a specialty shop that does home theater. You will pay a little more, but you'll also get the specialized know-how from the guys who live the industry. If that's not possible, Best Buy is always a good bet, just make sure you do your homework before you go shopping!

And dude, if you haven't seen a Fujitsu plasma yet, you're seriously missing out on one HELL of a fucking TV.

If you were on the West coast i would tell you to get your TV from Video Only. Best in store prices. I have a nice Sharp 42" LCD aquos that I bought from there with a wall mount and a 3 year warranty for $1800 out the door no interest for a year.
