I have been compulsing on this and landed on a Sharp Aquos LC-46D62U 1080P on sale form Costco.com right now for 1499.00. Costco doubles the 1 year warranty, has a 90 day return to store for refund or exchange of the full price including shipping and also handles repairs in home. I love it so far!
As far as 1080i/480p DVD here is a little comparison I did of the Blu-Ray disk vs the regular DVD. The scene is as close as I could get, both DVD players connected through component output to my HK AVR 630 and to the TV through component as the year old Sony DVD player does not have HDMI. My Samsung Blu Ray will not output to 1080p through component hence no 1080p in this comparo:

Another interesting thing I never noticed the original Terminator release is in freaking mono! in addition to looking much better the Blu Ray sounds better.
The Blu Ray starts differently also with Kyle (Michael Biehn) arriving whereas the DVD original release has Arnold's arrival at the start. Weird

I bought an Olevia 42" at Officedepot yesterday for $699. I decided to go cheap and when I graduate and make more money I will buy something really nice, and use the Olevia as a basement or bedroom tv. It is actually really nice and I am impressed with it. It had some good reviews, that is why I went ahead and bought it.
In your case I would go ahead and spend the extra few hundred.sigpic

Just thought I'd bounce this thread to the top, and show the new TV that I just bought today. Samsung 50" DLP. It's 720p, but still an incredible picture. Got it for a great price, it was on sale at a local furniture store where I got my furniture and appliances, so it was super easy, too. I'm just so stoked to finally have a widescreen TV, and a nice big one, at that. I can't set it up until I get my new entertainment center tho, so I'm just sitting here staring at it, dreaming about GT4 on it.

hate on it all you want. but i picked up a sceptre (i know everyone hates offbrands) 32" lcd that i use as a computer monitor, but it's actually an hdtv. i know it will display a 1080i signal ( no p :( ) but the max res. is 1024x768. but it's got plenty of hookups in the back for all my shit (hd sat box, vga in for the computer, 2 s videos, 2 componen, 2 composite, and a coax). so it's not necessarily the hottest set on the block, but it's pretty kick ass for 500.
also as it turns out. you can pick one up for around 500 alot of places and alot of people have. I convinced my boss to get one for his computer and he loves the shit out of it, as do i.
micro center has replacement guarantees, which are better than warrantees because alot of the time guarantees cover shit outside of the manufacturer's warantee and the extended warantees don't. read the fine print ftw.

Great score, Josh! I have always really liked Samsung.
I have their xxx1400 Blu Ray DVD player and like it except it takes forever to open the drawer & load the movie. I understand the movie loading is a java thing but why does it take almost 45 seconds to open the freaking drawer?
