    Michael Moore :SiCKO

I just watched it out of pure curiosity...has anyone else watched it? What did you all think of it?

If you have comments please keep them civil. Formed arguments; none of this ridiculous arguing

    Argue away!

I downloaded it tonight and will probably watch it tomorrow. I like his films for the most part, but I don't take his opinion and views as the gospel.

I watched it a few nights ago. I thought it was pretty good. I just have a hard time believing everything that Michael Moore says. He's comes across like the left wing Bill O Reilly sometimes. I'm curious to know if life in France is really that good. Nonetheless the US should absolutely have universal health care but I just don't think it will ever happen. The people keep electing presidents that could care less about the middle and lower class.

Yeah...you have to take everyones words with a grain/pound/bushel/kilo of salt these days. He painted a rather beautiful picture of everyone else's health care, but unfortunately the numbers don't lie. At least we're above Slovenia!!

Seriously though, there needs to some type of reformation and soon.

Another interesting yet very liberal movie worth viewing

It wont happen because its impossible to sucessfully do. Life in France isnt that good, neither is it in Canada or Cuba WRT healthcare. Go onto bimmerforums and ask Hugo about Canadian health care and he could rant for hours about how you have to wait forever to get mediocre care.

And Cuba is a joke, of course they will pander to him. Castro wouldnt pass up an opportunity to make the US look bad. Cuba cant keep doctors, they keep fleeing to places like Argentina and Nicaragua.

France is getting smaller according to a BBC article I read, meaning the birthrate isn't keeping up with the rate at which people are dying. A few EU countries are in the same boat, and it went on to state that China is really the only country left with a population explosion. IIRC, it said we were still growing, but not even close to the rate at which we were post WWII through mid 70's.

In that same article it stated that due to that circumstance, the French government could spend money at a near irresponsible rate & not hit a point of creating debt - so basically the inverse of what is going on here in America in general with social security. At least that was the stort term, but then after that they would loose their tax base & need to raise personal income tax rates.

I don't have anything worthwhile to say about Moore.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Linus really hit the nail on the head with that one.

European countries are "suffering" from a massively low birth rate. So there is no consequences as to dumping money into things. I agree with the ideals of universal health care and can't help but notice the fact that it seems the gov't could give a shit less about certain demographics.

On that note, however, I am a realist who understands UHC will not work. I'd prefer some sort of tiered system of private insurance. Basically how it is now I suppose, I just think that health insurance should have different options and be more available to the poor. It would also be nice to see less red tape in situations where a company refuses to pay out.

Anyway, haven't seen Sicko yet. I will wait until is on HBO or something. I generally like these kind of documentaries (Zeitgeist, Who Killed The Electric Car? etc). They may be totally polarized, but they at least get me to a point where I want to look into things on my own terms.

I'm done with Micheal Moore. He's just a tool and spins shit to make it fit how he wants. Most of his statements are loosly based on facts, its just another fictional documentary by him.

I don't really care, if you don't like U.S. heath care, leave. IMO there shouldn't be heath care provided by the government at all.

If I think that drug companies are ripping off sick people I should move to a different country? Give me a break. Even the mega rich with awesome healthcare would admit that there is a bit of gouging going on.

That doesn't really have anything to do with heath care, now your are just complaining about monopolies and the fucked up economy.

The only thing I'm complaining about is people like yourself who tell people they should leave the country if they don't like the way things are. That no way to get things changed, I'm sure your buddy Ron Paul would agree with me.

anyone that thinks universal health care is good for the US needs to rethink it
the government shouldnt have anything to do with it. people need to provide for themselves and have the choice.
name one thing the government has done efficiently and successfully.
social security? medicare, medicaid? hillary wants to take profits from big corporation. whats next? competition is good for health care and as soon as the government takes over there will be none. you will wait months and years for certain procedures and the care will suck. i personally dont want anyone telling me when to go to the doctor or who i have to see.
