Just thought of something.

Did he ask you to send it as a gift, with a value of $0-20? Most of my Canadian buyers ask for this so they don't get raped paying duty charges.

If you claim a low value gift... you CANNOT insure it for its actual value or Customs will notice and nail the both of you.

If he did and didn't ask for insurance I don't really see that as *your bad*

insurance is cheap, like pennies per $100. I don't know why you would have sent it without more insurance, that's basic CYA.

Actually, the UPS guy asked me how much the value was, so i told him around 2k. Then he automatically entered it as a gift as to save the buyer money when it goes through customs.

This is what the buyer wanted, correct.
He also never asked for insurance (notice how I worded it. I really don't think it's my responsibility to offer it considering that the original Ebay auction page said that it was additional at buyer cost)



*btw, this was not an ebay auction. It was a spinoff deal after the auction never hit reserve.


I feel bad. I'm going to offer him some cash for his troubles and hope that he doesn't file a paypal complaint. That's the last thing i need is a -$2400 in my account due to a paypal claim putting my account on hole.

Honestly... he could either have it insured, or get out of paying Duty.

He cannot have both.

Also FYI... Paypal can only hold the money in your actual account. Transfer it to your bank account.

I thought they could dig into your bank account.. That's what i'm afraid of. Even if i cancel my account (and I'm not like that, I wont' do that to the guy), I think they can pull my information up in my archives and get the info.

If that was the case Jordan, like you said, then people would be doing huge transactions all the time, then either transferring it to their bank account or cancelling their account with paypal altogether.

I have a funny feeling that if i did that, then paypal could take legal action against me. I must be careful.

Thanks for the help guys. Considering the condition of the shipment after it arrived, i offered him $500 and he accepted. Better than a whole paypal investigation where I could possibly have lost all the money.
