Wow. Quite possibly the most ignorant post on r3v Ive read in a while. Even on R3V. You almost inspired me to ban you outright without even consulting the other mods. Life isnt black and white, and to see someone actually be happy with what they found they were meant to do isnt something to shit on. Beats being in a fucking cubicle in the rat race. Those peoplee to me are the ones (if anyone) to talk shit about. Miserable people who didnt have the balls to follow their dreams. I can identify with this guy because I took a bunch of college but didnt like it. It wasnt for me. University life isnt for everyone. I suppose youd like to think of people all being the same with the same standards. Now Im going to a very good recording school and am having LOTS of fun doing it. First time Ive gotten an A or a B since middle school. Grade average is 89% which is unheard of for me. And if money is how you measure success, then its a very good field to get into. Im just happy I finally found something (it was right under my nose), that I will enjoy going to work for. Does the fact that I beat a 1/4 ounce a day habit of dope, and was in a gang for more than a decade and got out also qualify me as a loser, or a strong motherfucker thats been through more than most of you guys ever will in their lifetime? Take some Physiological Psychology, Sociology, and general Psychology classes before you try spout your garbage about those who dont walk the well-well-beaten path to mediocrity. Not everyone is meant for tedious, repetitive, soul draining work the rest of their lives.

Move up to parts manager and life gets better."As for dealers, your best bet is to make lots of money with them. Independent shops can't pay their mechanics the same. I suggest you take your "apprentice time" or whatever they call it with a independent shop so you can see exactly how that works."
The average dealer in the south east pays 18-24 hr depending on skill level/experience/training. The dealers want to hire "STEP kids" as they have training which would cost the dealer 50k to send some kid off the street vs. 10k to purchase a "STEP kid". They also know they have you by the balls on what they can offer you to start because you have to choose a dealer within 1-2 months or pay back BMW NA 10k for you STEP training. Most of the master techs I know who are the "gods of the shops" in many of the dealers across the state that i know dont make more than 50-65k a year. and they are all 30+ with years of experience. yes its possible to make 100k a year at a dealer but most of the time you have to be crooked to do so. talk to someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about before deciding to quit college. just because you know e30s inside and out and enjoy working on them does not mean you will enjoy working at a dealer. it is full of kiss asses and whiners. all of the "gravy" work is usually given to the guys that have been there forever. anyways fuck it it sucks.Leave a comment:

WTF is wrong with you guys? You get so defensive when I say that people without degrees have the capability to make more money than you.Leave a comment:

I didn't say the average pay for engineers - just people with degrees. This includes philosophy, underwater basketweaving and engrish.Leave a comment:

What college did you go to? hairdresser college? i had an internship my junior year that payed $42K/yr with benefits. The average 1st year salary for graduating Industrial Engineers from OSU is about $55K. Thats just the FIRST YEAR. Where one earth are you getting those ridiculous numbers from?Leave a comment:

I sit on my ass all day, write programs for aluminum tubing on a $125K CNC 3-axis vertical milling center, and then run them. Guess what? I'm 20 and have no college education (did some community college). But I'm already valuable at the company I work at because there are not many people out there that have the knowledge or know-how to Trig-out functions or understand CNC machines.
My $.002, for whatever its worth.Leave a comment:

i didnt go to UTI, and i need a new job. ;) wanna hire me? i've already gone through a lot of the T-Ten program at citrus, and just recently switch over into the HPI program.I WILL NOT hire someone who comes in with a UTI shirt/uniform at my shop because of this, They NEVER work out, and ALWAYS know more than I/Shop does. It's so sad to see these young guys walk in with their 30K "knowledge" and 17 worthless S.O.P. Pins and shit, and it does not mean anything when you have to (really happened) show them that the bolt turns the other way.
If/When anyone attends a UTI tech school, as the guy that picks the new employee, DO NOT wear your uniform/hoodie into the shop, Collar shirt, tucked in, with clean hands/fingernails, and a lack of "I know it all, I went to UTI" attitude will get you farther than any UTI badging.Leave a comment:

Yeah I noted that earlier about the top wealthiest people. sure they are the exception - but im sure they didn't know that beforehand - if you know what i mean.Along similar lines, Nearly all of the top 100 wealthiest people are college droputs with great drive and business plans. They are exceptions.
One mechanic I worked with makes upwards or 160k a year because he rebuilds exotics to a high standard and resells them. He's a god with a wrench.Leave a comment:
