HP/Compaq seem to be back in the game. My girlfriend bought a Compaq F730US from Office-Depot on black friday. 120gig HD, 15.4 widescreen which looks amazing, 1gig ram, 1.8ghz AMD X2, wifi, cd dvd-r multi drive, 1-year warranty, it has been a great machine so far, and only $450. They had it with a $150 and $30 mail in rebates to bring it down to $450 from $629. For the price it is hard to beat.sigpic

Eh, I love my apple, but you don't care.
My sister has owned a Dell and a HP laptop. I'm not sure what either of the models were, but they were shitty enough for me not to even consider buying one ever. Especially the Dell. The physical construction was horrible, but the MB also took a shit twice on the Dell. If I were to buy a PC laptop, it'd be an IBM without a doubt.

Don't buy dell. Everyone of their laptops I have played with is a pile of crap. Thinkpads are pretty nice, but pretty spendy too.
I love compaqs (which is now HP), thats all I buy and all I recommend to people. HP desktops are a pile of garbage, but their laptops are really good.
Oh yeah, for the love of god don't buy gateway either. That thing will break if you look to hard at it.Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

I got a used IBM T30 off of ebay for $350 shipped, with a IBM bag, and an extra battery. It's 2gHz, and 1 gig of ram. But I love IBM products - never once have I gotten something that felt/looked like a toy. It's all pro grade.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?
