Hi, I'm new after roaming around other sites. Puerto Rican/Cuban, the wife is Italian (not from NY) and we're all ESL.

They put me in during elementary school because of my race but I've always spoke english with my parents, I couldn't even talk to my grandparents because of the language barrier. I only stayed in ESL because it was easy.

Mine's technically Russian, but ever since I started thinking in English, I've considered English my first language. I'm still fluent in Russian but not as eloquent, simply because my vocabulary isn't as advanced (it stopped getting developed at 11).

Pretty much my situation. I was born in Canada, but when I started school I didn't speak a word of English. I really brushed up on my Polish in the last two years though, I spent a lot of time over seas with my cousins, so I now know most of the slang and "technical" terms ;)

spoken first, or are you trying to tackle written at the same time?

I was born here...but I got the hang of English at a very early age. Currently learning French and eager to learn German next.
