    What is considered "Low miles"?

Some guy called me up about my car. "You selling that really nice BMW?" "Yes sir what do you wanna know?"Says how much you asking I said 3k with hard top cause its worth about 1200 alone. And he says Oh it's a convertible? And I said yeaaaaaa.... and he said How many miles on it? I told him 122k and he goes HOLY CRAP! Thats a ton of miles. And I said Uhh ok. And asks if I will take 1000 for it and I calmly replied "Sir, what does the badge on the back say?" And he said BMW and I said then you should know not to insult me a terrible offer, call me when you have a better offer, good day. I wish I could see the look on his face.

Do you think 122,000 miles is a lot for a car made in 88? I mean really!

no it's not a ton of miles... but it's also not "low miles"... low miles would be like 80k and below... maybe 85 IMO

I believe "average" mileage is about 15k per year if the person only drives one vehicle. So you're way under that number. I'm with you, 122k is pretty low for cars that are this old. I'm at about 126, and I'm quite happy with how low it is.

Also, it's an 88 325ic. I'm not dicking on the car, but don't act like some prick about your bmw by talking about the badge on the back because someone offered you something that is not completely rediculous for your car. This isn't a genuine CSL, a tii turbo, or a Grp. A car. This is the kind of shit that gives BMW owners a bad rep.

I think most people still think it's 1993 and that 100k+ miles on a car is alot.

          1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

It is pretty rediculous. As I said, it's a perfect running car and even the guy said it was really nice, so why the fuck did he offer me 1000$?

That guy is nuts, I agree. I bought my '90 vert with 118k on it a few years ago for 3k, I think. Then the timing belt broke in like two days, just a few before I was about to change it. I'm never going to forget that.

I'm about 100 miles from 200,000 - some parts of the car have much more, some parts have much less - but then, I wouldn't expect anyone to buy it from me either.

The guy probably has his own used car lot or side business, and knew if he could get it at the price he offered that he would have a home run when spring time rolls around.

122k is not alot of miles for an '88 but are they documented miles ? Since these cars are notorious for broken speedos/odometers could you prove it if needed ??

My 1983 Euro 528i just turned over 66K earlier this month. Got it in mid november and have about about 1600 miles since then.

                      1985 535i - 163K
                      1989 325i - 164K

I think anything between 100-120K is relatively low.

I'm genuinely curious, how do you prove documented miles? Take a picture every month?

I really don't know, please enlighten me

To the average car-buying folkle, anything over 75k is "high miles", doesn't matter the year.

lol does it use high mileage motor oil?

kidding aside you do sound like a d bag mentioning the badge on the back of the car. REGARDLESS of what model bmw it is id hope you werent driving it because it was a bmw and because you genuinely loved the car......

122k is low miles assuming your odo is accurate for reference my 88 has 191k and change

Service records from previous owner etc ... Even some cities/states that have emissions done yearly, they record the miles when the test was done, which in a lot of cases is reported to carfax for proof of mileage documentation for possible fraudulent Odometer reasons.
