    OT again: Dual displays

I am wanting badly to buy another 22" LCD and run dual displays on my PC. This would make it much easier when working with CAD and transcriptions. I figured I would need a video card with the capabilities to run two, but when I started reading, it appears that many people simply run two video cards.

Has anyone here done something like that? The monitor that I have now has a "native" resolution of 1680x1050. So do I just need another card capable of that resolution, or should I just buy one that will run both? Any other advice for me?

    Thanks in advance.

you can do it either way - I used to run 2 cards back in the day. the disadvantage is it takes up an extra slot, but you can pick up a second card really cheap since all it will be doing is desktop stuff. pretty much all the newer cards have dual ouputs though.

Depends if your motherboard can run to video cards. But it most likely does. I would go with one tho. No need to buy to just a waste of money because one will work just fine.

I run dual 20" widescreens at work. I just run an nVidia dual head DVI video card with 512mb of RAM. It's the only way to go.

My co-worker has two of those same video cards and runs 3 20" monitors and a 42" TV off of it (VGA input on the TV).

Do it. You'll never turn back!

Is your computer a dinosaur? Most cards since like 2001 can run dual monitors.

I've got an ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT.

Dual screens is something I've always wanted and I finally ponied up the cash. Trying to use a computer with a single monitor is almost painful to me now.

Once you go dual you never go back. I have duals at home, and quad LCDs at work.

No, not a dinosaur really. I've been upgrading it for a while, and my video card is pretty much the oldest thing left.

I'll just get a new card. I need a bit more video memory for running Solid works and CATIA, so whatever. Plus, they're not very expensive anymore. Thinking back to when i built my first computer, I think I paid like $250 for two 128mb sticks. Hah.

And on a side not, I just bought 4gb of DDR400, and it should get here today. I'm fucking excited, it should be an upgrade from the 512mb I have in there now .

I find that for the most part I rarely need two monitors with anything larger than 22" widescreen, with all the multi-desktop utilities and what not there are these days, Its rare that I really need more than the real estate provided.

At this point I have a 17inch Dedicated to my Hyper-V heads up display, a 17inch Dedicated to my Outlook 07, my 24 which is my main monitor, and another 17inch dedicated to internal IM.

I use every part of it..sadly.

I am still cluttered at home with my dual setup, a 19" and 17".

At work I only have one 21", and that really sucks as I have no fewer then 50 programs/windows open at one time. Remote troubleshooting of entire telecom backbone on one screen FTL.
