Why bring in a new Brasilian for this match? I'd rather see him go up against Forrest or Jardine(last fight he took via TKO against Houston Alexander)....

For those not familiar with Thiago Silva, he's an animal.. His last 7 fights have been by TKO(5) and KO(2). Matter a fact, out of his 12 fights/wins, only 2 were not TKO/KO. I don't know about when it comes time to fight "the" animal (Rampage) for the belt but it will be interesting. SO many good fights coming up this year!

Thiago Silva (Pictures) will look to continue his run towards the UFC light heavyweight title against Antonio Mendes, Sherdog.com learned Monday.

Silva (12-0-0) was originally slated to face Rashad Evans (Pictures) on the Memorial Day weekend card in Las Vegas. That fight was scrapped when Evans accepted a June 7 tilt against Chuck Liddell (Pictures) after Mauricio Rua (Pictures) withdrew because of a significant knee injury.

The highly regarded 25-year-old Brazilian will look to keep his flawless record intact against a lesser-known commodity in Mendes (14-2-0).

Fighting out of the Europe Top Team came, Mendes, a 26-year-old from Fortaleza, Brazil, ran off nine consecutive victories in 2007. This will be his UFC debut.

Same camp as Wanderlei The Axe MURDERED silva. Great, who cares. Silva got fucked up by chuck, no reason to think the same wouldnt have occurred with Shogun. I dont think Evans wouldve be able to beat chuck while he was in his prime, but I think he has a shot now. But I dont think Shogun has a shot even now (before torn ligaments). Brazilians may be ok now, or actually they always have been since the UFC debuted. But Americans dominate fighting.

How so? The only division Americans are currently dominating is the Light Heavyweight division. I really want to see Alistar Overeem fight over here.

Actually, the only division brazilians are dominating is 185. And thats just one man. Who are all the champions and top contenders? Americans for the most part.

They'll be showing the DREAM fight on sopcast.com. Cro Cop is pretty much being handed a can to regain his stature (I guess). Regardless, should be nice to see him fight again as long as he's back. A few other good fighters to watch as well...

Washington Post Blasts CBS for MMA Deal

Wow, haha... Someone should feed this prick to a lion and make it a PPV.

"It was bound to happen given the increased visibility of mixed martial arts. But who knew that proud old CBS, the long-time home base for the likes of Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, The Masters and Final Four would be the first major American television network to stoop so low as to elevate this so-called sport into a prime time slot on Saturday nights."

"Oh yes, women will also fight it out on CBS, yet another revolting development. Sadly in the first decade of the 21st Century, it really has come to that. I know from past experience that MMA aficionados will point out the high level of skill involved. It allegedly incorporates principles of karate, judo, wrestling and boxing and has been somewhat sanitized over the last decade from its earlier roots as basic no holds barred brawling more suitable for your friendly neighborhood alley."

Although I don't agree with the author of that article, I don't agree MMA should be shown on public television.

Why not? I don't watch regular channels so I don't know what kinds of ill shit is on already but, I don't see how MMA fights aired late on a Saturday would be too much worse.

Kimbo went from backyard fights to Showtime and will now be on the debut card on CBS!!! Oh, the opportunities for success in the US!

                                CBS, ProElite Schedule Primetime Debut

"Mixed martial arts will debut on CBS with a live broadcast May 31 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the network and ProElite announced Thursday."

"The CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights event will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler (Pictures) will defend his title against Scott Smith, and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (Pictures) will also be on the card."
