I will tell you that if you ever had a chance and went to see the NASCAR sprint series race at Bristol you would walk away from that experience somewhat hooked. I am in NO way a big fan of the series but I do follow it some and a few of its drivers. I am not a fan of the 1.5 mile + tracks as much. Short tracks (in person) and restrictor plate racing (only on tv) do show some intense racing and are generally entertaining to watch.

On the contrary some of the guys in the sprint cup series are very good road course racers and come from open wheel racing backgrounds as well.

Ask Montoya, Villaneuve, Franchitti, Carpentier, and Hornish what they think.
I'm with the folks that like all types of motorsports. NASCAR evokes some very intense feelings both pro and con. I was in Terry Lebonte's short track crew in 1985 and even then he was learning road racing at the Bondurant School. Most people's idea of NASCAR is still stuck in the 1970's. It's roots are American and working class in origin. Junior Johnson was the last of the moonshine runner stock car racers and he retired as a driver in 1966. Social class prejudices are at the heart of the the controversy. The Russians have a saying, "Scratch an aristocrat and you'll find a peasant underneath." Now let's get down to the real pretenders. The no driving bitches with nothing but money that play race car driver. You'll find them populating the slow half of the field at IMSA events.

        +1000 and I'm a road racing guy!

It's 1000x worse at forums like miata.net (I know, LOL!). TRUE motorsports fans like or at least respect all forms of motorsports.

I have a LOT of respect for NASCAR drivers and their crews. Doing 200 mph only a few feet from a very hard wall takes balls. Doing that repeatedly for a 500 mile race takes BIG BALLS.

Plus, unlike Formula 1, NASCAR actually cares about its fans and doesn't treat them like crap.

          exactly.

I'd rather do a road course than circle track any day hands down; but that doesn't take away from the badassery of what the guys in Sprint Cup do on the weekends.

I don't know I think the short track stuff is where they show how good they are. At least at going in circles. Call me crazy but controlling 700-800hp powering out of a corner tight enough to be on a 1/2 mile track (or whatever Bristol is) is baddass.

Relax you guys. I was just razzing ya'll. AGAIN, I watch Nascar all the time. And I've watched everything at one time or another....I used to really like watching the hydro unlimited boat races that were on ESPN2.

And since everyone wants to lynch me for calling hillbilly, I should point out how this past county fair, I took, the girl and kids to the tractor pulls........Which was BADASS.

I like formula 1 a lot, but I have started to get into NASCAR for extenuating circumstances. Both sports take an equal amount of balls (that one S curve before the right-hander into the long straightaway at the French Grand Prix is just sickness, whereas you see the rear of a car doing 180 going around a turn hitting bumps and bouncing up 6 inches is just scary looking at it). I think NASCAR is a good bit more exciting than F1 as far as lead changes go and passing and such, whereas F1 is more tactics in how you race, your fuel load, pit stop times, pushing the engine... etc. Each one takes its own specified skill, and it takes a lot of that to succeed or even being close to succeeding.
Perot isn't a Hillary hater, but he's not a fan either, relating the bumper sticker he received that reads: "Monica Lewinsky's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife for President."

I really didn't want to chime in on this one. But I will say NASCAR is one of (if not the best) race organizations in the world.. Just hear me out.

They promote there sport WAY better than any series in the world. FIA is the WORST organization as far as creating new fans or promoting either F1, WRC, etc.

NASCAR has turned a run of the mill racing series into a cash giant. They are just getting larger and larger in the world of racing. Even if you don't like the racing, you have more than enough venues to check out the sport... I dare you to try and follow most FIA racing series.. especially WRC.

I have to hop on the NASCRAP train. That shit sucks to watch. And the fights have to be staged.
Half the teams have to hire out the driver for the ONE road course they have a year.
                      Sorry, I hate that shit.
