Absolutely. Thank you for saving me the time to type exactly what I had to say.

Not a serious-war movie, but a classic comedy none-the-less. The boot camp is definetly what defines the movie though.

Also would like to add that Das Boot is a great movie, for those who managed to watch all 5+ hours of it.

PS: If anyone ever watched BeerFest (by Broken Lizard), you actually see a reference to Das Boot in there. When the Germans are spying on the guys from a submarine, they get into an argument. Wolfgang Petersen apologizes and admits he's short-tempered because he had a bad experience in a submarine before. Just thought I'd share as I realized that when I watched it myself. :p

You mean The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly? Takes place during the Civil War but not a war movie. Great movie though.

nar it was world war two, and at the end of it they ally with a german tank commander and they split the amount of gold with him, because he was guarding the bank with a tiger tank and blowing everything up ahh i cant think of the name of it!!!

Funny this thread comes up cause I'm actually watching Saving Private Ryan right now while pulling a graveyard shift. Absolutely my favorite war movie, although I do love Black Hawk Down, as well as Platoon. It's kind of ironic because I'm actually taking care of a 90 year old man, and about an hour ago he was telling me stories about WWII. Kind of a trip to be talking to someone who was born only a few years after WWI, lived through the depression, and then served in WWII. Makes you realize how young you truly are.

I like them all, but that part in Saving Private Ryan where they go to tell the Mom that her kids are dead... gets me every time.
                      -Patton is awesome.
-Band of Brothers counts, too. When they find the camps... *shivers* Can you imagine??
-Behind Enemy Lines, good to go.
                      -Full Metal Jacket... classic.
-Apocalypse Now.. srsly f'ed up.. But good. "Charlie don't surf!!" I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.. That smell! That gasoline smell.. it smells like... Victory.
-Firebase Gloria was an OK follow up for R. Lee Ermey, but not near as good as FMJ.
-The Great Escape.. I could watch that over and over again.
-Braveheart - I saw that for the first time in Marine boot camp on Thanksgiving. Boy was that motivating.
-Courage under Fire was good, too. Kinda cheezy in parts, though.
-Heartbreak Ridge- Probably my FAVORITE. I've watched it so many times. Now that I'm a Gunny, I want to be just like Gunny Highway.

I was going to say Schindler's List, but I don't know if that counts or not. I would say that one's awesome, too.

One that I liked not so much... Flags of our Fathers. As much as I love Clint Eastwood movies and can usually watch them again and again, this one was kind of ... boring.
