I found Imus' comment more as a very distasteful joke that just came off all wrong. But Obama's preacher is FULL of nothing but hate, and is speaking in a extreme fanatical way, so much so that I am sure the Islamic radicals are jumping with joy hearing his speaches in the national news.

Being picked on as a kid is a bit different than slavery.

I've never understood the whole hype about slavery anyways. It was africans selling africans. Their people did the real evil. Most slaves were "war criminals" or banished from their communities for crimes such as adultery. It's not like the Portuguese were just taking people by force.

Maybe if you were one of the ones sold you would have a slightly different opinion about "all the hype". Arguments about the greater evil - is it the buyer or seller - are always pointless. It's morals from a relativist perspective and always minimizes and justifies one persons evil by finding a greater evil. Carried to it's logical absurd conclusion, we would be judging serial killers by the number of victims. Imagine Jeffrey Dahmer saying, "You think I'm bad, what about that John Wayne Gacy guy? He killed a lot more people than I did? Now there's an evil dude! Anyway I can get probation for this?"
As I recall from history, it wasn't just the Portugese. There is no supply without demand. Imagine the same take on white slavery. It was other white people that sold them in the first place. It's not like the Arabs, Africans, and others were taking people by force.

I keep on thinking... If a white person attacked the issue head on like this, what would happen? Because of course we don't have any experience with discrimination, right?

I'm not telling a sob story or anything, but I'll tell you what, I thought my first name was "honkey" the first 15 years of my life. I knew all the shortcuts home, and I'm still a pretty fast runner. Seems the odds were always stacked against me, fightwise, us being the ONLY white family in our subdivision. Yeah. I felt that pent up hate, and I had to stand by while I heard the "held down by the man" rhetoric.

When is it going to end? When will the debt be repaid, or are we just going to keep dragging it out forever? When an African American becomes President, will that show that the citizens have moved on? That no one is held down? Or if Mr. Obama doesn't become president, is it going to be because he's "black", and held down by the man?
