Siphoning gas?

My E30's going to be parked for a little while and rather than waste the full tank of gas that's in it (I filled up right before the driveshaft let go) I want to use it in another vehicle I'll be driving.

Here's the problem... my roommate has a siphon, I crammed 6 feet of tubing down the filler neck to find it bone dry... does the E30 have an anti-siphon setup or something? I know for a fact the tank is full.

If this won't work, what ways do I have of emptying the tank besides running the fuel pump and dumping the feed line in a gas can?

I've gravity-fed all the gas out before - no problems.

pull the fuel pump from under the rear seat and do it from there

the drain plug is probably the easiest and least messy way - plus, I wouldn't drain all of it out depending on how long it's going to sit.

you have obviously never done this before.

Get a tube, stick it in the filler neck and suck until it comes out. The drop the end into a bucket/tank/whatever. be sure to have a chaser on hand.

Kinda on topic.... anyone know of a locking gas cap that will fit the e30?

uh, yes I have in fact. I don't really enjoy the smell of gas in my interior, either.

Theres a drain plug??? I have never seen it. I'm going to drain the gas out of the M tomorrow. Is it pretty self explanatory to find? Or is it all hidden away?

Another idea if the gas isn't bad, you can just pull the line off the fuel pump and jump the relay, then pump it all into a tank. Shouldn't be too messy

I don't know of a locking gas cap, but why should you need one? Your filler door locks...

I wouldn't need a brass wrench or anything while dealing with the bolt would I? I get very skiddish around gas.

Passenger side, might be somewhat covered with undercoating/dirt.

Do your self a favor, do this outside and not in garage with a pilot light, or a house to burn down.

joe: euro e30s came with them.. i'm sure your stealer can get you one (non lock is only 6$... locking can't be that much more)

Im not dumb enough to take the fuel pump out.

Ive done this before a couple of times. It makes a huge mess if you are not on your toes when the plug is removed. And it is more difficult to swap cans than the way i suggested.

That dosent last 20 years on a good number of cars, and some E30s didnt come with central locking and locking fuel doors.
