    Going to New York

So I just booked my flight and hotel. The wife and I are going to New York for our 1 year anniversiary this summer. We are going in July and already have our tickets for a Yankees vs. Red Sox game and Mets vs. Giants. I'm uber excited.

Anyone got any ideas on the "must see" things there and other attractions that might be over-rated?

I guess blunt says it's been long enough to make jokes like that.

dude. Go over to bimmerforums OT. There's a thread right now about what to do in NYC.

Mostly, it centers around food, shows, Central Park, and various museums.

If I were you, I'd definitely grab a slice of pizza cooked in a coal stove. Lombardi's in Soho, Grimaldis in Brooklyn Heights. Chinatown is always fun in the summertime, because there are so many people around. Just make sure you still have your wallet.

I actually did this - I was in Manhattan about 5 weeks prior to 9/11. Unbelievable view. Nowadays you have to go to the observation deck at the Empire State building. Very cool place to check out......very art deco inside.

                              Other attractions.....

You mentioned the baseball game - I'm personally not a big fan of the sport but that should be a good time nonetheless.

Tickets to the Letterman show. I wanted to do this but my time in NYC was short so I couldn't :-( My next time there I will make a point to.

Lots of good places to eat....from a simple mom & pop pizza-by-the-slice to really nice venues which will cost you a grip. Do some research before you go.

Check out Central Park.....when I did there was a free concert going on so I stayed a bit and hit up the beer vendor :-D

Other important things to remember: bring comfortable shoes for walking.....that's how you can really see the place. Cabs everywhere too - not sure what the fare is these days but budget for these if you want to see an attraction which is too far to walk to. Also, the time which you are going (July) can be pretty muggy and humid.....although not as bad as August from what the locals told me. Keep a eye on the weather just prior to your trip and pack accordingly. One night while I was there it rained around 11PM and it was over 85F out at the time. Felt like being in a shower.
