And to be clear that's not why I punched him at all. I'm not offended by their "movement" one bit, even though I find it just as silly as most. I couldn't give a shit what his politics are. As I was walking to the bar he told me to "Pick a side" and I asked what he meant and he clarified "gay or straight"

It took me a second, but I decided to take the guy outside, knock him down, and punch him in the forehead. His comment just struck me as something a complete jackass would say to someone they just met. I've never punched anyone before!

Yeah, the hardcore ones are really a pain in the ass, and what sucks even more, is that there's a whole subculture now of Straightedge Hardcore Skinheads, which really fucks with our scene. It's hard enough being Straightedge (now that in most major citites, we're federally classifed as a gang), but now we've got the skinhead Straightedgers fucking it up even worse. It seems like with every positive movement that comes out of youth culture, an evil twin comes with it.

I remember the Straight Edge Skins from the late 80's. They were cool - I had no problem with them at all. I was impressed with a faction of Youth culture that chose to abstain from inebriation. The only bad thing is that those guys would turn the pit into a football game. It was weird - they listened to cool music, but were actually more like jocks than punkers. I think the worst was whenever Youth of Today would come through town. You couldn't even get in the pit if you didn't have an + on your hand.

jumped off some stares at ocean beach in san fran when i was 16 and drunk as fuck. thought id land in the sand but hit the last step. it was fun all the way down till i felt a sharp searing pain in my left foot. turns out i had broken five of the largest bones in my foot. the nice part is i walked all the way home on it up hill. crunch... crunch... crunch...

It pretains to recreational and habitual drug use/abuse. Some of the really hardline straight edgers won't take any kind of drug, not even painkillers for severe pain or things like Acetemenophin or Ibuprofen, which I think is pretty far-fetched, but to each his own. When I get a migraine, the fucking Advil comes out. And when I had hernia surgery last year, without Percocet, I probably would have killed myself from the pain of having a 4.5" long incision in my groin. I know, because the pain meds wore off in the middle of the night on the second night.

I also still drink caffeine, that's one that a lot of them stay away from, too. Most of my edge friends are also very much against promiscuity, infideleity and slutty girls, which I also very much agree with, but it's easier for me being married.

1) When I was about 8, I was balancing on a short 3-4' fence, and a pick up truck, doing something stupid I bet. Then my sister yells "Budweiser is out!", thats the huge pit down the street. So I get startled, slip, and catch my ear on a nail in the fence. My left ear got ripped in half, right dow the middle. I ended up needing a shit load of stitches, and was promised a Super nintendo.. I never got the fucking SNES.

2) One of our pits got off the chain, and started to run towards the other. I ran to intercept one, before they locked up. I got there just as they started to sprawl and go at it. So I pick up the one who was off the chain from behind. That was a stupid idea, she turned around, and bit my face. As soon as she saw me, she opened up, looked like she was going to be killed (because she was), and both of them calmed down. That only took a couple stiches, so I got lucky with that one.

OK, i always wondered that. most of the straight edgers around here are idiots hiding behind a moniker and causing shit at shows. if you ask them a question they can't form an intelligent answer as to why they do the things they do.

then i tell them about ian's love for "horse" then they get mad, find out my history, more anger, fighting insues.

i understand the reasoning behind it. not my bag, but to each his own.

I never started doing drugs or any of that shit, but I did get pretty drunk at parties several times. Recently I've gone back to being straight edge again, for the same reasons that I was when I was younger, but with a much more purposeful attitude, and a desire to try and do something about what I see going on around me, and what's happening to kids nowadays. I still to this day have never taken a single illegal substance or smoked a cigarette.

I'm 35 and only been drunk twice. It's not worth the next day. And only ever took one hit off a MJ cigarette.
I can carry a good buzz all night with a single bottle of wine though.
You don't have to have done drugs to know that shit is foul.
