Future of the Internet and "Net Neutrality"

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

So, nutshell: ISPs changing service to limit what you see unless you buy-in for more service or site access.

Interesting to say the least. I would be PISSED if this comes full circle.

    Discuss.

Been discussed for a while, I don't think it'll ever actually materialize.

Yeah, The US is lucky as of now, most other Countries have a GB/$ charge of some sort. Soon, our GB/month usage will be a billing charge, with streaming media it's only so far away.

The ONLY way I could see this working is if there's an unlimited plan that costs as much as we pay now, if not less, or paying LESS if you use less. I.E. like a cell phone plan that allows you so many minutes of talk time or text messages.

          Yeah, bandwidth caps suck.

I kind of hope this does happen, then I will drop my isp just like tv and have much more productive days.

Can you imagine the days when refreshing a forum costs extra money?

As long as there is free market, this will never materialize.

                so, don't vote for Obama.

Obama is pro-neutrality. McCain, not so much.

                            wrong.

Obama NEEDS to say that he is pro-neutrality, because he has to say what people want to hear. In real life, he can't do a damn thing about it.

In real life, the businesses will still do whatever they want. It really doesnt matter, as long as there is free market. If comcast wants to charge $X to allow you to browse outside of their "core" sites... How many of your friends will remain comcast customers?

If Obama or whomever tries to regulate the ISPs, it will run them out of business.

And dont ANYONE here say that you support government issued internet access.
