I saw that, someone posted a link to that on 1addicts. I didn't follow your link, but he over spun the turbo, right? And it was with non-stock software too, right?

That sucks ass, especially if there is no warranty coverage. Should have gone Dinan for that reason alone.

Seems like leased turbo BMWs & idiots go hand in hand.

and that is why I am not buying a software "upgrade" for my 135i. Stock turbos dont seem to like being over boosted. When AA coming out with a turbo upgrade all will be well

We're gonna see a lot more of these I'm sure. That motor has only what, a year or two of actual "production" usage now? We've already seen how poorly they hold up just to track usage, and that's stock. Once people start overboosting, I bet we're gonna see them pop a lot more.

Ill try to get a pic of the turbos from my car tomorrow, but those things are TINY. They look like a wart on the exhaust manifold that they are integrated into. Personally I would not even consider modding the n54b30 without changing away from those mitsubishi turbos. Also everyone that I have talked to say mitsubishi turbos are very fragile in any chasis not just BMW.

Dont get me wrong I love that engine and the 135 but the engine isnt the world beating bulletproof monster that everyone made it out to be.

I love how everyone praises him for not burning his car and committing insurance fraud...as if that's commonplace on those boards or some shit.

I agree with Charlie. These twin-boosted motors haven't been around very long so a lot hasn't been explored in depth as far as durability and performance limits are concerned. A friend of mine picked up a E92 335i coupe about this time last year and he quickly learned about the motor scrambling to 'limp home' mode once the temps climb too high while on the track. Some folks have found cheap ways to get around this and then continue to push the limits of the engine with more dire consequences. More reputable tuners such as Dinan and AA who take more thorough approaches to engine tuning will be the better setups to go with while the 'quick & dirty' hacks will be blowing up motors like this guy did.

I know a guy with modded software in his 335i, doesn't sound healthy at all above 3000 rpm. Something is broken or about to break. The sound is like a playing card in a fan.

I always thought that Volvo's (the other car they own) were a "thinking mans car"?

...it must be the turbo influencing the bad judgement

ROFL.... I have to laugh at that guy. I've leased (once, and never again) my previous car, my only mod was....hmm no mods.

I'll take the S54 or V8 over the new 135i or 335i anyday :) Especially in this 100+ temp.
