I think having to do something like fake being canadian is less common than it was 4 or 6 years ago. Back then some people in other countries really hated Americans, and would be a total dick to you if they knew you were. And no one wants their traveling ruined because of something like that. Hell, I know a few people who tossed a maple leaf on their packs when going through Europe.

Not because, as Atomic so eloquently stated between giving GWB blowjobs, that they 'hate' America; more that they were embarrased by our actions and didn't want to catch shit for the utter retardation of our president.

i travel to europe at least once a year, and have been for 15 years, and i have never had a problem.

it's all about how you carry yourself and how you treat them. if your an asshole, you're going to get it back in spades. if your cool, they are cool back.

in fact, most people we've run into love americans.

you want to talk politics and about bush, theyre going to be hostile. but they're so fucked politically/economically they have no cred. the usa has to bail their ass out of trouble all the time cause they're so focused on 32hr work weeks and 6 weeks vacation/yr to be able to fight for themselves.

they do have really good food and wine however

I'm curious why you would post this in an American forum - suggesting that we should grab the Can. flag and use it as a shield. It doesn't make any sense.

The end of the day, the thing that really gets me is that Canada, the UK, Germany, France, effectively the entire UN, etc. are heavily dependent on the US for protection and trade. Yet, they sit back and arm-chair QB the situation. When shit hits the fan, who is going to get called in? The USA. Look at the Georgian situation; france comes in, does some talking, Russia agrees to some BS document, everyone hails a victory. What was the out come? Russian troops dug in, moved closer, and seized Georgian military. Why? They want the ports. SO, we send in Rice, and at least "some" real withdrawal is taken.

If we went away, Russia would take over a large amount of Europe and China would begin rebuilding their imperial ways.

Funny thing is, I don't think Americans have to talk about how great we are. In spite of hate speach of this country from all over the world, we still do more for just about every form of aid that the vast majority of the rest of the world combined.
