I can't completely agree with that. No way do I think I would be more healthy if I starved myself down to the 165 lbs the "chart" says I'm supposed to weigh. The "should" is what I can't agree with. By what standard? The standard is faulty and can't possibly apply to everyone.

Yes, overweight and obese are two different things though.

If you are 5'10 and 200 lbs, without strength training, trying to get large, theres a good shot youre overweight. I dont pay attention to heigh, weight, anything like that. Whats your body fat percentage? I go with that more than anything. If youre 5'10 and 200 lbs (about 1" taller than me), and you dont lift you probably have around 18% body fat.

That made me laugh. I'm trying to get large?? I'm 18% body fat?? What in the hell is that crazy statement based on???

If you read above I'm around 12%. I've only been back in the gym a month and a half and been on and off (more off than on) for the last few years. You're ignoring a persons genetics and their history of training and their diet. Even though I've essentially been out of the training game for a few years, I don't stray far from my base condition (hence the genetics and diet comment). I'm not going to bother listing my various history with training.

Point is, you're making over generalized statements that just don't cover everyone. I know it sounds like I'm hammering on you, and I'm not trying to (I'll be we have far more thoughts in common about this subject than it sounds like).

there really is no recipe. ive made it several ways but the best way is cheating. i go to trader joes and buy a marinated package of "burgundy pepper" lamb tips. i have used plain lamb too and its good but this marinate is hard to beat. do you have trader joes? otherwise its just as it looks. get a nice pole, penetrate your ingredients with it and put the heat to it. make it and post pics with a commentary on if you liked it or not

Maybe you did not read my statement correctly. I didnt say you are trying to get large, there was an IF. If a person typically is 5'10 and 200 lbs, and they do not do strength training, they for the most part will not be in good shape. That IS when the doctors body mass index plays a role, I believe. That is when the typical person is around 18% body fat. There are some exceptions, some people just generally have more muscle than some (due to genetics like you said), though most dont. Id like to see someone (proof also) that is 5'10 and 200 lbs, in good shape, without working out. Its not happening.

So really, all my statement said is if you are not building muscle, and are 200 lbs and 5'10, you probably have a higher body fat percentage. Thats all. Its general, and broad (like the BMI charts I was bitching about). But it should be a pretty close guess.

You cant really just tell someone their body fat percentage lol. Some people will eat 5000 calories a day, not burning that many, though they ride their bike. Metabolic rates differ, diets differ, along with genetics. You can be 6'1 193 with a high body fat percentage, and not look fat. Youd just have lower muscle percentage, so proportionally you would look normal. If you want to know really, go to your docots office and he can do the pinch test. Or some gyms have the real way to tell, which is the displacement test.
