    Rant**VW W8 SUCK!!**Rant

My wife drives a 2003 VW Passat W8. The motors in these cars are known to grenade around 60K. Ours has 50K and just got the code for the cam timing hardware failure. P0021.

WTF? I expect if you buy a well engineered car and take care of it that it will last. I do not know why I did it but I bought an extended warranty so hopefully the repairs are covered. Not including engine/tranny removal and reinstall the bill is $7500. OUCH!!

After this is fixed i will trade it in.....

Too bad, this is a 4Motion and is fast and fun to drive.

    DANG!!!!

My cousin bought a Toureg (sp?) with a warranty and is very pleased with her warranty. There is just way to much electrical crap that can go wrong on the VW to not have one.

its a cut twin VR6, known to be costly when they break.

Even though I love the sound, no way in hell will I own another one! Sorry to hear. VW sucks when it comes to this as well.

I would never buy a car that complex if I wasn't financially ready for it to take a dump on me. VW/Audi always make their cars SO AWESOME OMG AWD TURBO 5V 2.8!!!1!

But really it's the Mk2 golf you wanted.

And evidently the bigwigs at VW agree with me!

Yeah. Girls and cars: go figure.

My sister drove off in her (free) Chevy Lumina once for coffee and came back with an Audi she traded the Lumina for. The Audi was red. The salesman probably did a double backflip when she left and sold her Lumina for 4x the trade-in value.

                I am not joking.

Knock on wood... But we have a 2004 Passat GLS 1.8T and the damned thing is as reliable as the sun. Never been in the shop once.

But, I maintain it. I run Mobil 1 0W-40 and VW OEM filters every 5000 miles in it. No sludging for me. Beyond that, just regular maintenance as shown in the manual.

Timing belt tensioners go on yours. New VW's are great for a lease, just don't own one.

Good man, been down that road before. Even at 3k mile on the dot oil changes, our 1.8t developed sludge on dino oil.

Yeah, I'm already preparing myself for that. However, with our expanding family, a Toyota Sienna seems like a good replacement, and may happen sooner than later.

Haha. I'm a tech at a VW dealer and have personally pulled like 5 W8 engines out. It's either the cam adjusters or torque converters on automatics that always take a shit. Biggest piece of shit engine VW has ever made. I'd still own one though. Make mine a 6spd.
