I loved my 1.8T, was a GTI though with a 6sp. Coils always seems to just pop out of now where, but I always carried 2 spares and a VAG-COM. At least I didn't have the windows ever fall into the door. And you know the timeing belt got done at 60K instead of waiting till 90K.

I hope the warranty covers the work cause VW will fight you tooth and nail before they pony up the money to a fix design problem.

My dad has a Passat Variant 1.8T ´05, but the only thing wrong with it so far is some issues with the clearcoat on the hood.

VW probably took a lesson from Microsoft.

                              Update on the Passat:
The soonest I can get it into the dealer is Tomorrow so the Passat has sat in the garage. Yesterday I wanted to move it outside so I could work on the wiring on the e30. The check engine light did NOT come back on? WTF? The fault code will still be in the OBD2 system, right? Will the dealer hassle me because the check engine light is not on? Why would it go out for a catastrophic failure?

The dealership should still be able to see the fault code.
