    Harry Reid the SOB

I've never liked the guy for his political stance on numerous issues. Now I like him even less. Just whose interests does he have in mind with this?

I can only imagine the fkd up shit that's going to ride in along with this rushed ass bailout bill.

    It's a bullshit process!

Oil shale in America's West is estimated to hold be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil -- that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone.

Something tells me the oil in the oil shale isn't as easy to get out as one might assume...

Its not, but there is no reason to ban the use/acquiring of it.

Much of it is in the Rockies, and traditional methods tend to rip up the area (think strip mining, then dumping the extra shale in giant piles.) However, development of alternative methods of extracting it (already in the works) that are environmentally friendly are in the works... I think it's pretty short-sighted and stupid. I'm wondering where the motivation to extend this ban is coming from.

I had - but what cannot be overlooked is this Senators' past voting record and where he aligns himself on such matters as the environment and energy issues. I get the feeling he's got some extremists tugging at his ear from time to time. Not just left......but very left. And that's where problems stem from. It goes for the right too. Anything extreme in either political direction is never good.

Ok, no tin-foil hat shit or anything, but I truly feel that the US Gvt's stance on the majority of Domestic oil production (Offshore/Shale/ANWR/etc.) is to secure/protect it until the remainder of the World's reserves are tapped. With Dubai becoming a travel attraction to secure their financial standards because their oil production will soon cease. It's gonna be 35 years from now, but the world will be oil strapped, we will have hybrid/clean technology and will have a monopoly on the oil of the planet. Gotta secure your rights to rule the world, think a game of Risk.

he's protecting his ass on this one.

Shell said their equipment is a decade away from being able to use shale. If Reid allows that bill, then off-shore drilling would have to be next, and that's a demo no-no.

Reid is a puss anyway, and every one in DC knows it. Why do you think White House is walking all over congress all the time. Nancy Pelosi has more balls than him.

by the way, that's BS. When shale is heated up, it melts like butter. And even in a crude form, we burn coal and wood chips. Problem is that we have just recently found a way to burn coal reasonably clean and US has a shit load of coal and natural gas.

I agree get more oil locally but you do realize that there has been no significant refinary capacity increase in decades?

You can only get so much water out of a garden hose, having it connected to the ocean does not make more water available at the other end.
