This is directly seen in the past few months when people stopped driving as much. Most of the oil byproduct companies are oversees anyway, since unions deemed all those jobs dangerous.
Basic supply and demand curve is all the gas prices are. Americans were willing to pay $4 per gallon, and they sold it at that price. The more electric/hybrid cars are on the road, the cheaper gas will get.
