Sucks for you WA guys :)

seriously though, I can't imagine car washing makes up that much of a pollution issue. If they really wanted to fix something big, they should follow CAs lead and ban lead wheel weights. CA estimated that lost wheel weights add 500,000 lbs (that's half a million pounds) of lead waste to the environment every year. That's way, way worse than car soap. And substituting zinc weights doesn't inconvenience anyone or cost extra $.

So you guys dont think its that big of an issue, as far as pollution. Id have to believe that this will only help. Im pretty damn sure there will not be any detrimental effects of this law. If you wash the car on your lawn, the soil will do a pretty decent job filtering out some of the pollutants, before it gets to your ground water. But in that case, at least it is going to the ground water, rather than directly to streams and rivers where it will kill these fish. There are many more steps that should be taken, and I would imagine that will be taken.

You can say what you want but we cant just continue destroying natural environments until there are none left. You also better get used to laws like this because there is only going to be more and more environmental legislation in the coming years. I am proud of my state for being one of the greenest in the nation.
Of course you live in Bellingham  My family has a Cabin on Hood Canal and you may want to actually go there sometime and realize there is an abundance of wildlife including sea life. What are the marine mammals I always see outside living off of? How about the crab that we easily catch everytime we throw a pot in the water? Perhaps the fish we ate recently that was caught in those waters? Also do you know what asphalt is made out of? I think all humans should kill themselves; that would be so green. First we wouldn't pollute anymore and our bodies would also compost and feed mother earth. I think beasility should be legal because animals are superior to humans obviously and to bed an animal should be seen as a privledge to be with such a noble intellegient beast. The government is not supposed to control the people or make decisions for them........I'm done with this post....I think I'm going to see if I can find a squirrel outside or maybe one of those rabbits I always see.

Washington state already has tons of laws protecting fish (Salmon) to the point of overkill. I don't think its right to have neighbors calling the cops on neighbors because they're doing something against the state. That is who will be the ones who enforce this law of course. All that does is further cause people to keep to themselves. Will I have to hide in my neighbors attic when the police come to take my car washing family away?

uh, I'm pretty sure all of the car wash soaps I've ever used are biodegradable. it's not like we're washing our cars in diesel fuel. plus, as others have pointed out - all the oil, coolant, rubber and crap that washes into the drains everytime it rains makes it a moot point

screw chris gregoire - she needed to go away the first day she started her job.

The police wont come and try to arrest you.. they will fine you, and deservingly so. It'll hopefully go to help pay for the clean up of your mess. So just go by the rules the educated lay out, and you will have no problems.

How do you define protecting these fish to overkill, do you have the numbers? Im pretty sure you dont, and you are just bitching about nothing. The Salmon and steelhead's are having terrible times right now as far as populations go. Salmon fish can not be fished in saltwater this year, in efforts to protect them. I want to say their population has decreased around 50% in the last 3-5 years. Thats a scary number.

You use biodegrable soaps, thats awesome, really. But how many people do? Im sure not everyone does. So because oil, coolant, rubber, and plastics get washed into the drains, it makes it ok for other shit to be washed in there? Maybe they'll pass laws for any vehicle leaking oil, coolant, PSF, ATF, etc will be fined. Then it will all be fair and even, and the environment will thanks us for it.

Or they should advertise biodegradable soap more. I honeslty don't know if the soaps i use are or not, so I'm guessing no.

Go by the rules the educated lay out? Thats a real elitist mentality. Education doesn't necessarily mean you are more intelligent or know what is right. So because someone can't afford schooling means they have to listen and obey rules set fourth by the superior educated people? You know that the money from the fines will not go directly towards clean up. It will go in with all the other money that goes........???? To overspending and waste. If you are going to use statistics at lease give some links. Also how are these poor uneducated creatons going to be able to afford these fines? Like stated before; wouldn't you rather have people maintain there cars? Also as stated previously, there are easier ways to make a greater impact; ie: lead weights and such.

Am I allowed to clay my car? Does it talked about quick detailer spray? Just want to make sure I'm not breaking the law. I don't want to go on some list somewhere. I think guns should be illegal because bullets are often made from lead. What happens if one of those bullets hits a fish? It would kill it from lead poisening! :(

Thats really neat. I happen to have a place on the Hood Canal also. In fact, my family has had a place there for 40 years. My Dad has fished and crabbed the Hood Canal since he was a kid and he has told me flat out that neither are what they used to be. He used to catch Salmon daily. He told me that he would get bites right after putting his line in the water. Now were even lucky to get a bite after three hours of trolling.

Sounds like your dad doesn't know how to fish ........sorry sorry I'm kidding ;)

Maybe its all the f'ing tweekers who've decided to cook meth around those parts. That can't be good for animal or humans. Seriously I've been hiking around there and afraid I'll stumble across one of there labs when they're out by it. We actually found one once and took off the other direction. Called the police soon after, but they said something about it being in the woods and juristiction. Not sure if they even checked it out?

Lets see, first off retard, you can not hunt with lead ammo any longer, so thats a great suggestion, but too late. Same with lead weights. As far as California is concerned, at least.

Why not use these educated individuals with degrees in an environmental biology field, with tons of experience? Because there are schmucks like you out there, who want to pollute, and feel no one should be able to tell them what to do? You're probably one of those people who hates cops, talks shit on the government (local or federal), and doesnt do anything about it. Lets not use the excuse that you can not afford to go to school. Im not quite sure how WA is, but Im sure there are programs to help you out. Thats just being lazy or not wanting to go, so dont use that as an excuse.

How are you going to pay for these fines? How do you pay for speeding tickets? I dont give a fuck how you pay for them. If you cant afford to pay for them, dont commit the offense.

I didn't think they made anything else, and it's not like you have to look very hard for it. saying washing our cars is killing salmon because gray water is running into the creeks is stretching it - especially since many storm drain systems go through the sewer water treatment plant first anyway (unless there is a heavy rain).

I wasn't talking about myself; I'm done with college. I recycle everything I can and I don't have to. I don't like throwing away glass bottles at bars even. I don't actually think it cool to intentionally pollute, nor do I think you need to make it a law. I only target shoot; I don't hunt (nothing against it though, I've just never done it). I've never had a speeding ticket in my life (one but it was deferred). You are making many assumptions. I was talking in generalities. In my previous post which you're referring to, I was talking about people in general. Police (don't refer to them as "cops", its not proper) are needed and I respect them. Obviously like any profession there will be both good and bad members. I find that if you treat people with respect then you will most often be treated likewise. I don't see why you feel a need to call me a "retard"? Do I seem retarded or act in anyway similar to you? Why did you bring up the lead weights in California? I stated that the law instated there regarding lead weights was a positive thing and that the WA state gov. would be better served instating such a law here rather than going after people washing their cars.
