No, it tastes just like Goose Island beer. (Who is in part owned and distributed by Anheuser-Busch)

Overall: 7. A very safe American Ale. Keep in mind, they aren't claiming this to be an IPA. Let's be realistic here, this beer is bound to be trashed and looked down upon from the start by beer snobs and homebrewers alike. I can't see this beer being designed for them. I view it as almost a "starter" beer for those who've only previously indulged in college kegger beers. Maybe you're 23 or 24, you've gotten your first real job where it's allowing you to put some bread in your pocket and you're looking to enjoy some of the finer things in life. Budweiser's response to Fat Tire, anyone?

It really is a wholly drinkable beer. One of the positive things it has going for it is the name behind it. How often have you been at a bar where your only choices for draft beer are Miller Lite, Bud, or Coors Light and their specialty beer is Killians? This is where American Ale can be valuable. It's tough to readily find a beer with any sort of hop presence at your typical neighborhood bar.
So the Belgians bought out Anheiser Bush and suddenly they make great beer called "American Ale"??
Probably doesn't have much to do with this, compared to the increase of sale of American craft beers and Bud wanting a stake in that market.

The local British pub recently getting Franziskaner beer on the menu is likely rooted in the InBev deal.

haha, I went to a bar this past weekend that advertised domestic drafts for $3. Yet somehow, "Budweiser American" Ale didn't fall under domestic drafts. It was $5 so I told them to fk off and bring me a Blue Moon.

        Fkng idiots.

I have her on tap at work. Makes for easy comparison between "The King of Beers" and a decent ale. I still feel that Boulevard is a tad better. It's still good none the less.

they sell that at a place locally but i haven't tried it yet. I've tried a wide selection of IPA's and prefer my beer to have a large amount of hops.

Give this one a try if you can find it locally.

hoppie to the max. they also have a 60-minute and a 90-minute ipa that are killer. I tried one of the 120's the other day and its a little over the top for me. Thick, harsh and tends to kick you in the ass with its 20% abv.
this is what they say about it.
"Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45-degree plato, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month & aged for nother month on whole-leaf hops!!! Our 120 Minute I.P.A. is by far the biggest I.P.A. ever brewed! At 20% abv and 120 ibus you can see why we call this beer THE HOLY GRAIL for hopheads!
              20% abv"

I bet it analyzes at huge alpha acids content but there isn't that much perceived hoppiness to DFH 120 minute. The sheer amount of sugars needed to get to 21% ABV results in a treacly, oily mouthfeel that Mr. blunt felt when I dumped nearly four tablespoons of throat yogurt on his eager tongue.

The mouthfeel is representative of the style, but not as well-integrated as others.

I'd prefer a lower ABV DIPA like Southern Tier's Unearthly. If you want just hops and little malt, Victory's Hop Wallop is actually very nice.
