i've been told the tii should run similar to the M42 motor, which would mean a great driving car.

No, he came here for grad school because the ones out in gods country weren't good enough ;)

But I will agree that you have the worse weather by far. Right now just happens to be extra bad here.

Minnesota was pretty miserable... 30 below in the winter, and 95 with 70% humidity in the summer? forget it.

            and:

As usual you don't know what you're talking about. I'll be the first to say that Portlanders don't know how to drive in the snow but that wasn't snow, it was pure ice. It's that he was out at all.
            And that was last year.

The city of Portland shuts things down far too soon. Even the schools are closed today and it's totally clear out. And they have already shut the schools down for tomorrow....WTF!!

All I have to say is my 325is can handle mostly level ground barely ok, but any incline and it's fucked. Probably 95% because of the tires. I've driven many RWD and FWD cars in the snow just fine, but around here "all weather" tires don't mean shit in the snow/ice.

The S14 is a marvelous engine. It has such a nice power delivery. You feel each piston push you, you can modulate the accelerator with such precision. It is only 2.3L but has 200 docile HPs. It is basically an F2 motor, similar to a tamed M12. And you can buy tem for cheap.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

"S14" and "inexpensive" do not belong in the same book, much less the same paragraph.

                        On an unrelated note:

The view from my balcony around noon today, there's about 2 more inches of snow now. Looking west over Lake Union. 58 pictures autostitched. The stitch kinda fucked up in some places but whatever.

The S14 in my M3 has proven bulletproof and cheap to run. I do 25 track days per year (usually 6 sessions per day as an instructor), run my car as a daily driver, and only change sparkplug, oil filter, oil and do little maintenance. Parts may be more expensive than from the M10 parts bin, but they are't more than any modern engine. A 200hp M10 will be very costly to build, will have a short lifespan and will be totally unstreetable.

Spark plug wires, cap, and rotor at retail are nearing $800... Timing chain parts are massively expensive.

well ya, everything IS relative. A friend of mine tried to tell me that the motor in his Cobra was a de-tuned LeMans motor.

Maybe even true, but still worthy of a chuckle.
