This isn't entirely true. It's the other way around, the Chinese, Japanese and Saudis buy American debt to help bankroll the U.S. You're actually broke.

What I meant was, not that we give the Saudis foreign aid, but that oil revenues basically are their entire economy, which we (the U.S.) likely pay the greatest share. If that is incorrect, pls advise. I think the Saudis likely own huge shares of our country, given the Bush admin is completely beholden to them.

Hamas has all the power to stop the bombing if they would choose to do it. All the have to do is stop firing rockets into Israel and the Jewish state would not have an excuse to invade Palestinian territory.

The same thing as Rwanda, Bosnia and Nazi Germany. So, even if Hamas stopped any rocket launching, the problem who still be there. Your assessed status quo, is already well beyond the acceptable. Israel is expanding its territories month after month, creating settlements that looks like any US suburb, even with pools, while Palestinians get water a couple of hours per week, and are forced to stay home. I their own land occupied by another country. Imagine a similar situation occuring in the US. Not many peple would accept being occupied.

The minimal action that would keep Hamas or Hezbollah to stop antagonizing with Israel woud be to revert to the frontiers of 1967. Remember that the United Nations have been asking it for over 40 years, and that Israel hasn't complied yet.

BTW if Israel is so rightfull in its attacks against Lebanese and Palestinians, I wonder why most arab countries don't really feel friendly with them, and why all European countries (in fact, the whole world minus the US) requires Israel to stop bullying its neighbours.

But as we know, peace would mean that the US would not subsidize Israel at a yearly rate of 4.5 Billion $ in diversified weaponnery (numbers for 2002). Not good for business. So does the US really has an intrest in stopping the bloodshed?

I my opinion the major problem in the Middle East is the fact the voices of moderation on all sides are drowned out by the screams of the radicials. Until a moderate majority can assert itself in that part of the world all sides are going to keep making the same mistakes.

I do not deny that they most likely don't receive the best treatment at the hands of the Israelis but terrorism and the shotting of rockets only give the hard right in Israel the moral justification in the eyes of Israeli people to take punitive action to retaliate against Hamas. This is just my opinion.
