I love it when top Physicists and Scientists predict possibly catastrophic reactions... then someone on a web forum disagrees... and I feel better.

wow! wrong time of the month?
what they are doing is amazing but also dangerous don't you think? also if people never asked "why are you doing this, maybe it is dangerous?" many of us might not be here calling people numb nuts... that's an important question to ask when doing that kind of work, and a question many smart people ask a lot. you also should not fallow people blindly just because they are smart. even smart people make mistakes. just because you are smart does not mean you are ethically correct ether.

So we make a little black hole for less than a second, some guys stare at it, jot some stuff down..... then what? Do they use it again? What other things does the collider do? Is there a little window that they look in to see the collision? Does a computer screen just show some blobs of colors like when the scientists try to find The Loch Ness Monster? Billions? Will the Hadron Collider give us clues to finding new alternative fuel sources? Cost effective clean energy? When we make the black hole will we find potential solutions to ongoing conlficts in the middle east? North Korea is advancing its nuclear program and seems to have the necessary means use it on an ICBM, will the hadron collider ease weapon inspecton talks between N. Korea and the United Nations? Just a few questions I have had floating around in my head.

the study of a black hole and how it works may lead us to understand just how the universe works it may lead to Faster than light travel, instantaneous travel over vast distances, how to create energy in a clean way from nothing and have no waste. the possibility are endless this could lead us to the next level of human existence and exploration of the universe other than our own little play pen here.

Sure it may not lead to much at first but its the basic building blocks that lead to huge innovation down the line.

I wish I could be there when they fire this up, I used to really be into astronomy and astro physics an a lil bit on quantum physics but have not kept up with it for the last 10 years so I really am lost when it comes to the newer stuff.

They should make a small black hole that we can throw all our trash into. Ummm, yeah.

                                +1 lol

ok they have used it and it did not really work.

Good news! The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) — the massive particle accelerator straddling the Swiss-French border — didn't destroy the world! The bad news: The contraption didn't really work either. In September, the 17-mile collider was switched on for the first time, putting to rest the febrile webchatter that the machine would create an artificial black hole capable of swallowing the planet or at least a sizeable piece of Europe — a bad day no matter what. No lucid observer ever thought that would really happen, but what they did expect was that the LHC would operate as advertised, recreating conditions not seen since instants after the Big Bang and giving physicists a peek into those long-vanished moments. Things looked good at first, until a helium leak caused the collider to shut down after less than two weeks. Repairs are underway and the particles should begin spinning again sometime in June.

you know whats a really cool idea? perpetual energy or motion... i don't know where i read this but i just read a story about two printer technicians who quit their jobs and built a really promising perpetual energy machine. now that would make the world go round.
