i'm gonna go ahead and take the bait here-

the "you and i" that are typing here haven't been sucked into a black hole, but if the "many-worlds" interpretation of quantum theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation) is correct, then that'd be because we happen to reside in the "lucky" branch of the decision tree, and there is a universe out there in the "unlucky" branch where the earth disappeared into an artificial black hole that was very slightly larger than it was supposed to be.

i take solace in knowing that if that does occur, none of us will ever know what happened because we'll all basically be compacted into a singularity in less than a second.
