Yay for going to the eye doctor

So I finally decided to get my ass to the eye doctor today, as the vision in my left eye has been getting steadily worse over the last couple of years. Well, it turns out that not only do I have astigmatism in both eyes, really bad in the left one, my left eye is also suffereing from Keratoconus, which is put simply, the thinning of the cornea itself.

NKCF is premiere keratoconus educational awareness organization in the world, dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding and education of keratoconus.

So starting tomorrow, I'll be wearing glasses, then I have to have more tests done Monday morning to evaluate how far progressed the condition is, and go back after 6 months of wearing glasses to see if it's still progressing, at which point I'll most likely need a rigid gas-permeable contact in that eye, or in the worst/rarest case, cornea transplant surgery. Let's hope it's not the latter.

    Fun.

For sure. The whole thing is just kind of scary to me. I've never had any kind of issues with my sight in the past, I've always had outstanding vision. But my left eye has been getting steadily worse, harder to see things far away, trouble seeing at night, and lots and lots of headaches. So it was time to go.

Sorry to read of the diagnosis Josh.

Hopefully soon you'll be accustomed to wearing glasses.

It says it onsets in about the early-to-mid 20's.

Good thing you got it checked out. Hope everything works out. I go to the eye doctor regularly, even now when I don't have insurance. I can do Ok if I am deaf or missing a leg or something but I dont know what I would do if I couldn't see.

Kind of you in general to have your vision going... I'll be 45 by the end of March

I was the go to guy if you needed a tiny part number read or a dropped small screw found. Then I woke up one morning and couldn't read the fucking street signs until I'd almost passed them...

The odds are in you favor for a positive out come... Focus on that.

Yeah. I started to notice a year or so ago that I was having a lot of trouble reading things far away. I used to be able to read the tiniest thing from the farthest distance. Then things like my computer screen started to get blurry, and watching TV and things started to get harder. I've also been getting headaches fairly frequently for a while now. I wish I'd done this sooner, but I think everything should be fine. I'm really looking forward to getting my specs tomorrow and having my vision back to normal.

Sorry to hear. I've been meaning to get my eyes checked out too. My 20/20 vision from my youth seems to have gone bye bye.

I just got glasses last week. I had a pair for about a week in 5th grade, but was embarrassed, so I did not wear them. I got contacts, but had issues due to my astigmatism, felt them to uncomfortable to wear. That was 14 years ago. I decided it was time to go as I was tired of squinting and went for it.

I was amazed to see the world thru new eyes. I did not realize how bad my vision was until the moment the guy behind the counter leaned foreword and placed the glasses on my head. I instantly was silenced. It was if my whole existence had changed. I am more relaxed behind the wheel ( because I am not trying to see what is going on), less stressed in my home life, watching TV is a whole new thing, My posture had improved, and in general I'm just much more happy.
