Knife Thread: All about Knives and other edged tools
My boss had some parts coated by Guhring with their FIREX tool coating they use on endmills and drills. Turned out pretty awesome. I got one of the 5 that were made.
My worn Skeletool CX compared to the FIREX coated one.
This is by buddys kirshaws I sharpened maybe a month later I had to resharpen because
they get dull FAST. idk what metal they use.
A lot of their knives are just 440 stainless, nothing special, so they do dull quickly. A lot of there stuff does have premium blade steel however. I have one of their knives with a D2 blade and it holds an edge forever.
The angle at which you sharpen it has an effect too. A wider angle will be more durable where as a narrower, thinner angle will be sharper, but not last as long.
Complete pile of garbage useless knife but it looks kinda cool.
Put a 25* edge with a 21* back cut and stropped. $8 w/20% off. Harbor freight knife. :P
The bottom of the handle has a compass that unscrews I was thinking of getting a hollow brass pipe, thread the end
and use it as a short spear?
