The difference is we shouldn't be forced. WE have freedom here. I thought we had freedom to give or not give as well. Guess not.
Fair enough. I also volunteered throughout high school, and wasn't forced to. I tend to have an extremely negative reaction to lazy, self-centered fucks, and some of that rose up again while reading this thread. I don't see how making something like this mandatory makes it worth less, though. Rise up over caring how doing something makes you feel, and realize that it helps the community regardless of how it happens.

I'm not sure what you mean by "we have charity", as far as I know charity is a global concept.

Some things are necessary for a country to function.

Taking money from people that have it and giving it to people that don't is not one of those things.

Well i meant that we rely on charity's to support our needy. For the most part. And the government shouldn't take over that role.

Wait... what's wrong with Americorps? A bunch of college kids helping clean up impoverished areas on a volenteer basis? Maybe if the new generation would give more of a shit about the towns and people around them, they wouldn't have to worry about this. Kind of like having to take a test in order to graduate high school, or tightening up on driving privelages for young drivers, or, clear book bags in schools.
When i was younger, none of these rules were implemented, and they didn't need to be. Suck it up and help your community. If you only care for yourself, maybe someone needs to help you care for others.

maybe if people would clean up after themselves and not take everything for granted then our government wouldn't have to impose these types of things. I mean fuck, is it to much to ask to put down the kingsize fries and help out a bit.

This isn't going to be "Americorps" or any other kind of community or charity work.

This is going to be mandatory indoctrination of spreading "the message" as spoken by "dear leader"

Truf. They plan to tie in 4 years of Gov't Sponsored Higher Learning in hopes of creating future leaders.

Whatever. Suck it up and help out. If you already are, what are you worrying about? Don't you hate it when people around you don't give a shit, or litter, or dont bus their own tables when they are supposed to? There should be alot of things that are mandatory IMO, b/c things that are mandatory are being overlooked. Like red lights for instance.

                                and true.

if people would step up and raise their kids properly instead of sitting back and not giving a fuck there would be no need for this shit. and if they did that they would probably would be responsible enough not buy property knowing they couldnt afford to, which then we wouldnt be in this financial crisis that we are in now. fucking people...
