Just felt like making the argument that there were some that lived. I'm sure there's an even longer list of companies that got federal money and then flopped. For the record I'm against all of the bailouts and government take-over. Nothing like having one of the most inefficient entities (government) in charge of a company.

The labor unions bankrupted the auto industry
Also their complete lack of reading the market and business planning. They put all their eggs in the Trucks and SUV's market which cost them big time when the price of oil shot up. Not to mention their reputation for building shitty cars. No one is going to gamble on a relatively large investment such as a new car if they don't feel it is going to last. I can't say that this was completely off base either. I owned a 2000 Malibu for a while and the thing blew out its head gaskets at 45,000 miles to which the mechanic stated "yeah that's a known issue, just plan on doing that every 40,000-50,000 miles". I traded it in on a 2007 Toyota Yaris within the next month. I don't have any empiracal evidence as to whether Toyotas are more reliable than Chevys but in the end it doesn't matter. It's the perception that is important. Maybe GM just has a shitty marketing department? This could be the case what's their marketing campaign been as of late? "Buy American!". To which I want to respond. "Give me a reason!".

Cite your sources. It's easy to say that but back it up! The War in Iraq was probably the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. What a waste of money. The term quagmire comes to mind. I'm not saying he didn't implement some policies that caused problems. Just that I can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe I'll check later if I have time.

Yeah things are going to get worse. Just wait until the bond market dislocation. It's already starting to be the case that bonds issued by municipalities and companies aren't being sold because of the massive amount of federal bonds hitting the market as well as the lack of buyers for bonds in general. You ain't seen nothing yet. Ask the UK about the dependability of sovereign bond auctions.

i still say in 40 years he will be looked upon as a great president.
Only if the coming implosion of the world financial markets overshadows how horribly government accountability and civil liberties were erroded under his terms in office. Policies which Obama is making full use of! Oh the irony is amazing!

Thank you. This has been brewing for 20+ years now. Clinton certainly didn't help by repealing the Glass-Steagall Act but not even that is the root cause. These financial problems are made up of many interelated threads so you can't exactly say it was this or it was that. Maybe I'll try and touch on some of these later if I get time. Busy life these days!

Whew ... and now back to work.

I just proved that there is an inherent bias present in the media as they financially supported Obama by an 8-1 margin over McCain.

Had it been the other way around, surely you would still disagree with me, right?

Following the money is not "bullshit logic" - it is indicative of an inherent bias.

Or do you think the media financially supported candidates they oppose?

                Which is it?

Not a problem. ANY time! Or at least, ANY time you wanna come in and shit on my opinions without even reading my posts.
If you noticed, I agreed on everything Mr. Right Wing said, and then provided some insight on how I thought it could be looked at in another light. If you call that close minded and rediculous, then Im sorry for you. Im not bias towards any party to be honest, but I certainly liked Obama over McCain. Either way we're fucked.

But I do know this... America needs the change, not Iraq. If we have to kill people in the middle east to obtain our right to THEIR oil, why dont we try something else?
Americans are the ones that need to change, not America. Thats the whole fucking point everyone is missing. Change your lives, open your mind, and rationalize. The government exists because we cant govern our fucking selves. And if thats how it is going to be, then socialism NEEDS to happen.
So basically, the state our country is in, is a fine result of us being able to govern ourselves for the past 100 years. We're in the shit, and we're waiting for the government to bail us out of it. Then when the government sticks their hand in our pockets to help us out, we get pissed. (Big Nutshell)

Politics are like assholes, everyone is one.

Edit: Oh god, I can already see the quotes on this. Im not bias, Im just throwing another idea out there.

What if I said I think the Gov't's intrusion into daily society has allowed people who once set standards, and held morals, to slip and not need to do so, allowing the Gov't to further step in and claim they "Need" to help us.

The way they have taken over, is by taking over, and making us give them more of the power we once had.

Our lifestyles (Americans) are disgusting. American's consume, consume, consume.

Unfortunately, the people you speak of are a dead breed. And the population is infinitely larger than it was, thus making it harder to manage and govern. If we all used our morals and standards to govern us, we'd have a thousand different governments.
