Jesus would have been semitic, meaning of middle eastern decent, and in all likely hood was much much darker than most european depictions.

National Geographic had an interesting special about what jesus really would have looked like.

Basically he looked arabic, with short hair as that was the common style of the day.

They had another cool special about the shroud of turin, and how many scholars think Leonardo DaVinci created it as a joke, using an ancient form of (basically) photographic development, which involved lemon juice for its acid content and some other chemicals. They're pretty sure it's Leonardos face, so they lined up some self portraits and some portraits done by his friends and they all matched the facial features on the shroud.

There's no controversy to stir. The whole wotl of Christians is taking for granted that Jesus is a white guy. which doesn't make sense since he theorically is arabic. So maybe no blond hair, and possibly brown curls. Maybe more tanned than what he is usually depicted. The whole question is how come he has been depicted as a white dude? I guess that anybody, independently from his (her) religion can have an idea. Because just swallowing everything we are being told is pretty dumb.
