I think we have two different views on what a gov job is. You mean something like EPA. Where i consider it to be something is heavily regulated and only kept afloat by the government. Take lockheed for example... if the government suddenly decided they didnt need "defense" anymore that entire section of lockheed would be laid off. A company is whats its funded by, private, public, or government.
Also if you're going to call someone a retard... at least learn the difference between your and you're. Now im really done.-Alex

I agree until the last part... weed is, at its very worst, better than cigarettes and alcohol. Legalizing it would do nothing but help, there would be all sorts of regulations in place preventing it from falling into the hands of all these weiner little 14 year old kids. Currently all they need to do is ask someone's brother's friend for a dime bag, because everyone knows someone who sells pot. I remember hearing about it in 5th and 6th grade for god's sake... never heard of kids acquiring alcohol at that age.how bout fixing the root problem instead of putting bandaids on everything. reduce spending and rid our fucked up system of corruption and waste. the politicians will just spend more. society is decaying before your very eyes and legalizing gambling, all these fucking shithole casinos ,the lottery, and legalizing weed is just going to exacerbate the situation.
your opinion is worthless because its wrong
Market-wise, legalizing pot would make the demand more concrete. There's currently a huge black market for pot, and there's no real way of knowing how much money is flowing through that market. I have several friends who have sold pot (by the ounce) since they moved out of their parents' house and already have medical school and more paid for. On the other end of the spectrum, there are the shitty gangbanger drug dealers that we've all heard about. It would be in the best interest of the government to convert 100% of this black market demand to revenue, especially based on the long-term effects (or lack there of.)
These 'stoners' you speak of are generally people who started drinking and smoking at a very young age and continued through high school and college. Everyone I know who smoked pot regularly before high school is already dumb by now. Most of the people who didn't try it until after high school are good students, going to good schools, who just enjoy getting high after a long day of classes and homework. Nothing wrong with that, and that's the direction it's heading in the civilized world. Weed has changed a lot since the 70s. A loser is a loser.
Of course there will be morons who smoke pot and play Halo or COD MW2 for 14 hours a day at age 30 with no job. To draw a parallel, I know plenty of losers who love BMWs; not because they're 'loser cars', but because they are awesome cars that people tend to like. Smoking weed is an awesome feeling that people tend to like. And no, not in the same way that ecstasy/crack/coke/heroin feel good.
The key is moderation when necessary. To me, it's the perfect reward for working on my cars. Blaze, shower, test drive, eat, watch movie, blaze more, sleep, wake up feeling great and hungry as hell. If you replace cigarettes with joints, of course you will have a problem. I'm blazed out of my mind right now, working (I'm a graphic designer) and browsing the forums, and I am on cloud nine right now. :D
BTW blunt, MN was due to be the 14th state to legalize medical marijuana, it passed twice but was vetoed by Pawlenty. As soon as he's out of office, it's coming to our state. If you ever have terrible pain or glaucoma problems, now you know where to go. lol. The head of the marijuana policy project (the group that got it legalized in california) is from here.

Seconded. I personally cannot stand having to hold my breath to walk by people who are smoking (there are tons on college campuses, more than I expected). And yes, I do have to hold my breath because otherwise every breath I take will be excruciating. I have 8 staples in my lung and it doesn't like smoke at all, or big booms, like fireworks.wow! we may disagree on proformance inhancing drugs and weightlifting/bodybuilding.....but, i fucking love you for this statement!!!
i have little to no respect for pot smokers, or people who do drugs recreationally for that matter.
that is my opinion based on my experences (and i have PLENTY, mostly bad and some good). i have my right to that opinion as much as SmokeyMcPot does to their's
My problem with smoking is how it doesn't affect just the one person who's smoking. For example, if someone drinks alcohol the person sitting next to them isn't forced to drink alcohol, but can choose to do so on their own. On the contrary, if someone is smoking the person sitting next to them is forced to inhale the smoke.
This is not to say that I think alcohol is good, not at all. I've spent enough time suctioning and bagging people to the hospital because they're too drunk to breathe on their own to decide that alcohol is just as bad.
And that's not to mention that smoking marijuana can cause cancer too. I agree with the economics of legalization, but I'm not capable of seeing that as justification for the affects it would have on public health.sigpicComment

you really have to hold you breath walking by people smoking outdoors? how slow are you walking and how close do you get to these people? and are we talking about pot or cigarettes...? somehow i doubt anyones smoking pot outside on campus. so do you think cigarettes need to be outlawed? and if youre sitting next to someone thats smoking and that bothers you, why dont you get up and move or get some different friends that dont smoke? i dont like to hear people whining like you but i dont think we need more laws passed to stop whining. i just dont get worked up over it.
edit to add- i dont know if pot is legal where you are or not, but i have to assume pot and cigarette smoke both bother you. thats why i ask, do you think cigarettes should be outlawed because of the tiny amount of people that cannot handle "second-hand smoke" and are incapable of distancing themselves from it? is that why pot is illegal... second hand smoke? haha!Last edited by lennon; 12-14-2009, 10:32 PM.Comment

I don't get it either. Outdoors? That's like the only place it's widely socially acceptable to smoke cigarettes.somebody call the wahmbulance.

Also, lennon, weed has been decriminalized in MA, so probably there are people smoking outside on his campus from time to time.Originally posted by accidentI have achieved the title of Douche of the month.

I'm not saying pass a law against smoking, that's already been done to some extent.somebody call the wahmbulance.

I'm saying that I wish smokers would be considerate of other people who choose not to smoke. An easy way to do that is by following signs that say "no smoking within 20 feet of building". I hacked up blood during a presentation I was giving because smoke was filling the room. A group of people were smoking right outside the building and it got in even though the windows were closed. I didn't even fucking see it coming.
I avoid smoke like the plague, which is hard enough as it is. MA decriminalized marijuana last year and it's already become a problem on campus, I can't imagine the repercussions would be much different on a national level.sigpicComment

Edited to write my comment, lol-
In my opinion that's an entirely different argument. I do think that cigarettes should be illegal, simple fact of the matter is that they are the only consumer good that is lethal when used as directed. Really, consider that before the 1920's lung cancer was so rare that doctors jumped at the chance to see a case of it thinking they'd never see it again. Now lung cancer is the cause of 1/3 cancer deaths or something like that. Think, you could eliminate a third of all cancer deaths by taking cigarettes out of the question, not even counting oral and esophageal cancers associated with smoking.
I don't think marijuana should be legalized because it would open the floodgates for even more ridiculous behavior, which is not something the US should be endorsing. Besides, marijuana can cause cancer just like cigarettes can.Last edited by stegosaurus; 12-14-2009, 11:05 PM.sigpicComment
