Legalize marijuana, tax the fuck out of it, inject it directly into the educational system to make us the smartest country in the world, reap benefits..
Seriously, I watched a documentary on CNN the other day that said over 70% of the nations population in jails are related to marijuana. And like 50% of that 70% was simple trafficing.

No shit, that is the biggest problem in my mind. Decriminalization rather than complete legalization is the best idea in my mind. Have it be simply a ticketable offense to carry it on you and just have it be a small fine. There is no reason to be paying to keep low time weed sellers in prison.

Crime rates would go down, prisons wouldn't be over filled and would not suck off as much tax payer money, it would generate HUGE revenues from taxation that could be invested back in to education like scabz said. I also highly doubt that use of the drug would increase by all that much. If people want to smoke they do it.

Now if only politicians knew what a cost benefit analysis was. Then they could see what benefits could come from legalizing it instead of acting solely on the stigma that surrounds it.

Has anyone considered what would happen to the textile industry if we introduce a cheaper stronger material in wide abundance? Its not the DRUG that makes it illegal its the hemp and hemp seed oil that makes it illegal....For the same reason we don't have 100mpg cars!

No, that is not why. Not even close. The better resources would not hinder the industry at all. The textile industry would stand to benefit from it. Their marginal costs would go down, and they; as an industry, could control the market price.

Wow you sound like such a tool in this thread it's not funny. What people do with their lives is their own business, and who are you to judge? Some people choose to sit down with a couple of friends and smoke a blunt to relax and reminisce, while you may choose to stay at the gym all day and workout.

Am I a loser because I like to get a little high and relax with my friends? According to you I am, however I can paint you in the very same shade. You are just as big of a loser because you choose to spend all your time at the gym working out and trying to build the perfect body that you will never have. Unless you are in professional sports, there is no need for someone to be overly fit. The problem with humans is that they are never satisfied with themselves or their lives, and no matter how much you lift to get as big and cut up as you'd like, it will never be enough.

While exercising is healthier and more productive then smoking weed, or altering your state of mind in any other way for that matter, it is just as addictive an activity. No weed will not extend my life, or get me a jacked and ripped like the many tools I see at the gym, but I could give a flying fuck about that. Each person is entitled to do with their lives what they choose, even if it is to fuck them up. While I used to be a stoner, I was able to mature a bit and put some limits on certain things I partake in.

Finally, hey bro I just maxed out on the bench at 500lbs! I'm so stoked, I can't wait to hit 600lbs so my pecs can hit me in the chin when I flex them for the girls trying to look hard!

First off heroine is one of the most destructive drugs you can take. I believe that heroine and alcohol(conveniently enough) are the only two substances that you can die from the withdrawal symptoms.

Marijuana is less harmful by leaps and bounds than alcohol and heroine and is not an addictive substance. This is not to say that it's not habit forming, but you are not left with a craving for your next high. The addiction comes mostly from an addictive personality.

I'm not saying that unproductive stoners are not losers, but to class stoners and recreational smokers as the same is just being ignorant.

And Edit: It seems that your argument stems simply from weed being illegal, and since you are partaking in an illegal activity you are a loser. Now we're going to make generalizations. You at one point in your life have chosen to speed and break the law...you are a loser.
              Very well said.

I like the past few posts I've read above. I don't think it should necessarily be legalized as much as it should be decriminalized!

I visited my cousin in Denver over the 4th of July weekend, and had an eye opening experience. The city of Denver has decriminalized marijuana, which allowed us to walk around downtown and smoke a blunt freely without being hassled. Think about the amount of room it freed up in Denver's prisons! Also the police force could focus on real criminals that are harming our society, instead of ticketing the kid that bought a gram to smoke with his friends.

If it is legalized, then I think it could help to bump start this God forsaken economy. Just like cigarettes and alcohol, the government would tax the shit out of it, but plenty of people would still buy it. ;)

Wow, I didn't know Denver had done that. Pretty cool!

Oregon just passed a law that legalized the industrial farming of hemp. Nationally it's still illegal, but us and 7 other states have passed laws making it legal within our states. Hemp is a very useful and versatile fiber that can be made in to all kinds of things (many more than cotton) and can be harvested 4 times a year! It also requires much less water, fertilizer and pesticides to grow. Hopefully more states will realize how beneficial hemp can be, and how it has nothing to do with marijuana or getting high.

I would argue the other way around. It needs to be criminalized, and there needs to be that negative stigma... But like many have said, Legalize it, tax the shit out of it, and make more money off of it for the state. Thats ridiculous that you can (allegedly) walk downtown Denver "smoking a blunt" like a big piece of shit, thinking you are cool. Even if it is legalized, whoever smokes weed is still a loser. It definitely needs to be limited to said losers smoking weed in their house.

I've been on the deans list for every semester I've ever been at college, I work a full time job as well.

Since I smoke weed I must be a lazy hippie though. Everyone that drinks beer is a loser*.

This is about the stupidest thing I have read in a long time. You are defining a loser as someone that smokes weed simply because it's illegal. So are you saying that you never have broken the law? You think that every law is a good one? I'm sure you don't, and you are using extremely weak arguments to come to even weaker conclusions. No, there isn't anything wrong with using marijuana recreationally. And I can't believe that you tried to compare it to breaking in to people's cars to smoking. Sure, they are both illegal, but that is where the similarities stop. One is a victimless "crime", while the other isn't. This is called poor logic, and sheer stupidity.

Smart people would say that being a loser has more to do with their contribution to society than what they choose to do in the comfort of their home (like having a couple of beers or smoking a little weed). Real losers are people that are unemployed and would rather be a leech and continue taking handouts (unemployment) than to get a job and be a contributing member of society. Those type of people represent what is wrong in America today -- lazy leaches. I'm not sure about now, but I've seen you post how you lost your job at the parts counter somewhere and you would rather just take unemployment than look for another job.

Another criterion for being a loser is simply being stupid. Your hugely flawed logic and inability to put together a good argument make it quite clear that you are a dumbass. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you were a high school drop out... you sure carry yourself that way.

So let's see: You can't hold down a job as a parts monkey, would rather take handouts from the government than look for a job and are a straight dumbass. Yep, you fulfill three major criterion for being a loser.
Very well put together reminds me of my friends writing...

Oh yeah, and FTR... I work, and gladly took my government handouts while I was on unemployment. And yes, I would rather, and Id encourage anyone else to take their unemployment until they can find a job that pays comparably, rather than one that pays less than youd make on unemployment. "Cant hold down a job as a parts monkey" is far from the truth, considering its the only time Ive been laid off, and was one of several that was in fact laid off that day. Perhaps if you read the paper, youd read something about some sort of automotive market crisis. I also go to school full time. I didnt read that initiallly....So theres my defense.

You are beyond the definition of a tool, and you're EXACTLY like all the big headed fucks at the gym. I bet you walk around feeling so buff after a set, and make it known by flexing all the way top your next exercise.

Did you start lifting because all the guys in middle school and high school used to pick on you? Or were you a bully your whole life because mommy didn't let you get your way as a kid?

So like I was saying... If I want to go home and shoot up some heroine once in a while, as I am a laywer, or even a state employee of some sort, that doesnt make me a loser? Its natural, and its just recreational.

Polak, I can see you taking offense to that, and rightfully so. I wasnt saying you specifically were walking down the street acting like you were cool. I have known kids from high school, up to grown ass men nowadays, who think its "cool" to smoke weed, and show it off. I have a couple former friends who were discrete about it, and its just what they did. I didnt agree with it (thus, former friends) but they did it, and it was their business. I apologize for that, it wasnt directed specifically towards you, rather your post. Id be fucking PISSED OFF if I was walking downtown Denver with my son or daughter (when I have one) and some guys were smoking "a blunt". I wont back off my stance of people who smoke weed being losers, and I personally dont care if its legal or not, but it absolutely needs to be done in your home (just like consuming alcohol).

Edit: And no, I dont walk around flexing throughout the gym, those guys are annoying as shit. I lift to know Im biggger than 9 out of 10 guys walking down the street.
