They can´t, because immigration law favors people coming from far more developed countries. Everybody else is basically barred, either by the cost of lawyers and applications or the ridiculous requirements in the latter, or by the fact that you need a close relative who is a US citizen to sponsor you, if you want your application to be approved in less than 5 to 10 years, even though immigration services have increased their prices roughly 300% in the last few years.

I definitely agree on most of what you say. Particularly on the accountability subject. But if you look at the immigration law, the punishment is many cases more severe than the one imposed to someone who ends a life. Consider this, also. Not every one of them is uneducated, can´t speak/read/write english or is otherwise unable/unwilling to adapt to american culture and customs. The vast majority of them file their income tax like everybody else, only they don´t get all credits citizen do. Ask the IRS if they would prefer them not to file. They can´t get a social security card or a driver´s license as someone wrongly stated. The food stamps or other benefits they receive, they don´t get them for themselves, but for their US born children, if they qualify. They don´t have access to higher education for the most part, and that keeps them from making more money and therefore sending their children to college, which in turns helps maintain the gap in education between races regardles of their potential. DREAM act, anyone? You may complain that they tend to have too many children...and that may be true, but think of this. Statistically, americans life expectancy is expanding because of better quality of life, which keeps improving over time. That means they live longer, but at the same time they tend to have less kids. If that trend doesn´t change, it´s those people and their children the ones who will pay for your ss benefits as you get older. All I´m saying is, don´t let anybody in just because, but give those who have stayed out of trouble, speak decent english and pay their taxes and such, a way to be here legally. It´s easy to find ways to condemn their presence here, but we would do the same if we were in their shoes. I think we as a society should stop seeing them as a threat or money pit and start integrating them as a part of our society with a lot to give, under the right circumstances.

I'm not against reform. Nor even potentially giving them some type of amnesty with fines and levies against their income for say, 25 years per individual (children exempt under the age of 12) but flat out amnesty is not a solution either. You say "only way we're going to see any progress on this issue" is the same as someone saying deport them all, end of story. So, throw that stone lightly. Neither is a practical solution.

Nope its not, but its what we have, so change it or enforce are the 2 options. Enforcement is the correct option you have not given any real argument as why they should be given amnesty, other than its easier. This is about equal justice in the eyes of the law not social justice in your eyes. There is a reason we say justice is blind.

Yes many and I dare say most would continue to not pay any taxes drive with out insurance and what not. Would you change your behavior if you were just rewarded for that very behavior??????????? one last time, 47% of current us citizens pay no federal taxes as it now most of those get a full refund plus some on tax day. making them citizens will make them eligible for all the welfare and entitlements they wont be paying a red cent into. Sure if the have a regular job they might pay a little SSI and FICA but thats it.

Here is an Idea, since you feel so strongly, why dont you take some of YOUR hard earned money and walk around and find 2-3 random "undocumented workers" and sponsor them and pay for them to get their citizenship.
