Looks like Costa Mesa,Cal is on board.

Costa Mesa declares itself a 'rule of law' community

By Mona Shadia, Los Angeles Times May 20, 2010

The Costa Mesa City Council has voted unanimously to declare itself a "rule of law" community, further widening the divide over illegal immigration in the central Orange County city.

This week's resolution follows an April news conference in which Mayor Allan Mansoor called for stricter regulations to catch illegal immigrants living, working and driving in the city.

Costa Mesa has sought for several years to reduce the number of illegal immigrants within its borders by regulating day laborers, asking police to check the immigration status of people they stop and limiting the number of soccer fields in parks.

Mansoor said before Tuesday's meeting that the resolution "states that Costa Mesa is not a sanctuary city" and will uphold immigration laws.

The resolution passed despite pleas from community members. No one in the audience spoke in favor of it.

"Immigrants are part of America," Silvia Hernandez told the council. "We work, pay taxes, go to church and participate in our communities. We need a solution that brings people out of the shadows."

"Americans across the political spectrum agree that our immigration system needs fixing," said Keturah Kennedy. "It is unrealistic to deport the 12 million undocumented residents of our country. Workable solutions must include a realistic pathway to citizenship for those who are currently working, paying taxes and learning English. We need all the residents of Costa Mesa to have full economic and civic participation to help our city thrive."

Mansoor dismissed residents' comments as reckless, adding that they do not reflect "what's being introduced tonight." He said the resolution was aimed at setting the tone for a strong anti-illegal immigration policy both now and in the future.

Let's figure this wallop of a point up. First things first, it wouldn't be for less than minimum wage come having to hire an actual legal citizen. They would have at least minimum wage rights thusly, minimum wage pay grade. Would I pick strawberries for $8.73 (IIRC) an hour? I don't see why not if I didn't have a job and things were looking skinny. My first choice? No, but there's a bunch of people out there in that position.
your first problem is you automatically assumed it was an argument. second is i dont see how the question makes me racist. it was a question to spark some sort of intellectual commentary about the illegal population the working class and its effects on the economy. but that obviously didnt work.

        anyways

if legal citizens were hired to do the cheap underpaid high labor type jobs, prices would skyrocket for those product and people would be complaining about how expensive everything is.

These people we find so easily reasons to hate on, they´ve been doing it for years (and I don´t hear them complaining, have you?) so you and me can eat strawberries (yum yum) at affordable prices. But hey, that´s Ok, as long as strawberries are still 2 bucks or less a pound it will be only THEIR suffering, right?

Take away away the benefits, everything except the bare necessities, and people will be working in those fields to support themselves.
i dont think you understand how unemployment works. the person you know, part of the type of people bringing this country down, is the real problem.

Many citizens of this country DO think picking strawberries, and the like, is below them. and they are the ones that collect the unemployment.

and the problem is not the illegals and legals that do these laborious jobs and bust their ass to try and make something good for their lives and their families. they arent the lazy asses many of you guys are accusing them of being. and by working i highly doubt they choose to be poor. i mean after all the reason they come here is because this is AMERICA the land of opportunity.

the problem with the AZ law is people are worried that its going to become a trend of racially profiling regardless of whether there is probable cause or not. thats when it becomes racist.

i do however believe that the law needs to be enforced which is what AZ is doing. they just need to be careful the way they do things. a lot of the people against this law are US born citizens, of all races. not just hispanics.

for the record i think the illegal population needs to be put under control and the illegals that are actually creating and causing problems like murder gangs etc. need to be sent back. but thats not going to stop them from coming back. as for the illegals that are just working their asses off in the fields they need to go the proper route and become legalized.

as far as my ethnicity im half mexican quarter jap and quarter white.

^^Couldn't have said it better myself. It's commendable if AZ is taking steps to deal with a local issue, what's debatable is, like you said, the WAY they are implementing it. Going around harassing people based on their looks or some assumption is just ...wrong. It leads also to misused resources, while the law enforcement agents are hunting the typical stereotype that fits the bill, a lot of of others they may want to identify will go undetected right under their noses, just because they may look different. It's like the 287g, it doesn't serve the purpose it was allegedly created for. The AZ law passed, but there's a lot of discussion about its validity. Many favor it, many hate it, many claim it violates the constitution. Let's see what happens. I would like to see the AZ law stay just to see what happens, even though I personally don't think it's the right solution to the problem.

this idea just crossed my mind.....would everybody be so angry at the illegals if instead of short, kinda-chubby, dark-skinned, ugly guys with a mustache with a taco in one hand and a beer on the other (let's face it and be honest, that's pretty much what you think about when someone says "illegal"), they were blonde suntanned bimbos from Sweden???

Just because you live in NC, I felt like responding...

Every year, all over our state farms open doors for people to go pick their own strawberries and other produce. Have you seen the turnouts? Just because your lazy ass hasn't done it, doesn't mean people aren't willing to use their day off to spend in the sun, in the dirt picking food with their families.

Go Arizona, I support you 100% and what products are from Arizona that I could buy in NC?

dude, don´t get me wrong. It´s about time someone decided to enforce the laws. Also, laws become old and outdated and they need to adjust to current circumstances. Only after you are stopped on suspicion of some other crime are they allowed to ask your citizenship status.

Like, you get pulled over for speeding. Then they can ask to see your immigration papers.

Why is everyone so opposed to this? American CITIZENS are required to carry ID, so why is everyone so upset about asking immigrants to see theirs?

As far as the racism comment or profiling, well ummmmmmm, Hispanics are the one's crossing the southern border illegally in droves. Not sure how you're supposed to catch them if you don't profile.

Racial profiling saves lives and makes everyone safer. People need to stop being so sensitive in this fucking country. So the fuck what if they're pulling over random hispanics. If they're doing what they should be then there will be no problems for them.

I had a problem, when NC was trying to give illegal aliens drivers licenses. That legislature got scrapped, and NC did get a lot tougher on sending illegals home.
