Getting along with Liberal friends?

This can go either way I guess. I'm conservative and it seems my neighbors and many of my friends and my wife's are very liberal. I did not notice this until after the elections of 08' and more recently on Facebook. I've got some now that I'm having to ask my wife if they will be at her reunion or not so I can go as deep into the argument as I would like. During normal conversation you will rarely here me go into political slandering, but these people just start blabbing on about b.s. and I can't help myself. How these liberals justify themselves is beyond me.

The call me a capitalist when I tell them that accidents happen in reference to the BP accident. I tell them it is an accident and making BP out to be some asshole corporate demon is just fucking silly. Who owns BP? YOU DO, I DO, WE DO, WE ALL FUCKING OWN BP. My point without so much yelling is that if you own anything more than your parents Volvo wagon, and have some assets you are tied to BP's success. BP had an accident that we knew could happen. I don't want to hear you bitch about oil and gas. Boycott it, not just BP gas stations, quit using anything with petroleum products in it. Have fun standing outside naked in the dirt with no food and no tools.

That's really it. It seems like like all liberal friends that I hang out with think of themselves as "intellectuals" and that they know something no one else does. If you don't agree with their view? Well, you're either a redneck/hick or, since 2008, a racist. Sadly, telling them that I don't care about poor and hungry, does put them morally ahead.


Also, I'd like to motion to stop calling them liberals. If that word is derived from word "liberty", then bigger government would not be their motto. Being so benevolent, they really need to add "socialist" to their party description (not in a bad way, but honest). There's such negative stigma associated with socialism, but if it's explained, all "liberal" wold still vote for it.

If your friends are open to other points of view then you may present yours politely. If they are picking an argument, then simply state that you're not comfortable discussing it. If they are your real friends they will respect your position and lay off. Generally the best way to engage in polite discussion of sensitive subjects is to ask why your friends feel the way they do and then offer your opinion (in the form of an opinion - not a fact).
This is pretty simple etiquette. The fact that you have to ask makes me think you need some socialization skills.

yes we knew that something could happed, that is why there are supposed to be safety features, the safety features where ignored or overridden to not stop the flow of oil. that is the problem, they knew there was a problem but did not want to stop production,

I would hate to prove your point by getting intellectual with you but there is a flaw in your theory, Liberal is not derived from liberty

Liberal is derived from the latin LIBERALIS or LIBER
Liberty is derived from the latin LIBERTAT or LIBERTAS

where both have roots in the latin word LIBER the words have seperate meanings]
