    California Propositions 16 and 17.

Anybody other than me pissed that these are almost definitely going to pass because of extensive corporate funding? Argh.

Info regarding these for those of us who are not Ca residents? (I'm an ex)

    Nevermind.

Looks like Mercury Ins and PG&E are the real winners with these props.

Yeah, thanks for that, sorry for neglecting to add it.

Prop 17 really pisses me off as an e30 owner and college student, as some times I'll have my car up on jackstands for months at a time, and I'll just take public transportation to suit my needs, and as such I'll 'lapse' in coverage. I'll be penalized for not always driving (paying for auto insurance) in the future, yipee.

And as far as Prop 16 goes, I might just go down to PG&E headquarters in San Francisco next month and throw a flaming bag of dog doo in their lobby. Two Thirds majority? "Taxpayer's Right to Vote" my ass.

for future reference, if you have a garaged car up on stands or w/e with no insurance and it catches on fire, causing your house to burn down, your company won't pay out for the house, even if you have homeowner's/renter's/etc insurance. Still a good idea to keep it covered, though I completely understand about not being able to afford to. Just a heads up.

Yeah, I'm far more poor than that scenario suggests, and that places me well at the 'target' of this new proposition.

I only ever have basic liability insurance, and I don't have a garage to park in.

And besides, it's ridiculous to be forced to insure a car I won't be driving, just to avoid a surcharge.

In fact, based on my insurance history, I wouldn't be surprised to be notified that my premiums will be increased dramatically come June. I've never driven without insurance, yet I get to be penalized like I have. Yay private influence of the democratic process! Hooray for poor taxes!

And people wonder why Cali is a shit hole.
It'll be the first Communistic state in America.

Explain to me how this is communist in the least.

This is both an example of a trend towards increased privatization of public services, and a legislation backed poor tax on the part of auto insurers.

But I appreciate you using a nonsensical buzz word to describe the situation, that probably best epitomizes why people will ignore the reality of these proposals and pass them into law.

But hey, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, you probably didn't actually read anything about these propositions, you're propably just another out of state troll looking for an opportunity to bash on California, and since that word was in the title you didn't have to look far for a chance.

95% of the problem of which, (not that I'm seeing a problem with being the leader in social benefits, seeing as how we have a larger economy than every other state) can be traced back to the minority rule holding our state by the throat every time we need to pass a budget or raise taxes. Our current situation is anti-Democratic, despite how easy it is for most folks to just attach partisan slurs and vacillating monikers to the problem.

Say what? Show me the exclusion in your HO policy that states this? Cov A covers all losses except those that are specifically excluded, vs Cov B that only covers losses that are EXPLICITY covered.

I think your sadly mistaken on this point, but that is not the point of this thread.

For the record OP, I have every right to bash CA, and the silly legalities there. And trying to use big words does not make your point any stronger.

You do have that right, as we all have the right to be douches wherever we please, and I'll fight to the death to defend that right. But I still get to call you out as a troll where necessary and appropriate.

And hey, if you wanna make fun of the legalities (in detail, from an informed perspective, not just pissing and moaning about how 'socialist' we are), then by all means, as the point of this thread was to see if anyone on the Politics subforum was actually interested in discussing something concrete and real that's actually going to affect people, rather than having another grandiose ideological pissing contest started by something Obama was reported to have done or Pelosi was heard to have said.

And while I may be targeting the 'right' with that, as it's abundant around here, the point is non-partisan. Both 'sides' (because we all must be so dichotomized evidently) spend far too much time bitching and moaning about the evils of the other that private interests get to bleed us dry in the meanwhile, like (on topic) exactly what is happening with these impending propositions.

But given the response (or lack there of) I've seen here, it's pretty obvious most would rather have their heuty teuty flame wars and rants about the sky's impending fall than actually discuss something in pragmatic terms.

And as regards my choice of words, about which I think there was no 'trying' (your implication being a failed attempt I assume?), lemme help you out.

Lunner, you entering the R3v political subforum to put forth an eloquent left-minded argument is like a cheetah walking into a pride of lions eating a carcass. You just came to eat but they don't want you here. Instead, you just run in circles around them.
