The answer to all of our problems is to reduce the size of the federal government.

The role of the federal government is for national defense, border protection, foreign policy, maintaining the union, mediating disputes between states and protection of our civil liberties from the states. EVERYTHING ELSE is up to the states people. All this shit about health care, stimulus packages, abortion, what have you, is unconstitutional.

did you support the administration shaking BP down to the tune of $20 billion? Cause there is no authority anywhere that gives the pres or the congress the authority to do what they did in this case, which is to bring the full pressure of the USA upon BP in order to confiscate $ and then have those $ handed out by an appointed czar. this makes a mockery of the rule of law that gives the admin the right to seek damages thru the courts. its a dangerous precedent to set.

I do support forcing BP to create an escrow account with a 3rd party to handle distribution to affected parties.

This isn't a regular lawsuit, they caused a crisis across at least 6 states. To compensate all those who's job is fishing,etc in a timely enough manner that they all don't go bankrupt while BP plays court volleyball for the next 6 months is a huge undertaking. I also appreciate not footing the bill for cleaning this shit up.

Bottom line is that BP fucked up. You know if this were going through a normal court it would be this time next year before any sort of conclusion is reached, but they have the resources to stall this for much longer than that.

And I don't doubt for a second that they would try to weasel out of every penny. Meanwhile we see a half-hearted attempt to clean it up (based on history here) and the people who deserve compensation would be a case of too little too late. Those businesses would be long gone and the local economies tanked. This situation needs to be avoided, and it certainly looks like we took care of that.
