that is the cost of security.

I thought of that but my problem isn't that they rented 30 rooms. It's the "it's on the tax payers dime, fuck em" that's it looks like. Specially during this terrible time for families.

I dont see it like that at all. This is the way it has always been. No one in command wants another Ford Theatre incident on their watch. So the secret service is the one that makes that call.

If you remember one of the first things Obama did when taking office was to cut a 11billion dollar contract for 19 presedential helicopters. A battle that is still on going.

That was a start....and stopped right there. But those coppers don't change the way the President and first lady spend like crazy on our dime. Knowing Obama there was a reason other than trying to save money to cut those coppers. Pretty obvious. He's not exactly a saver.

Not really. Its protocol for security. There are better ways to save money in this country than skimp on security, or fuck, even the coffee.

If I were the Pres, I would put on indefinite hold:
                  • Vacations
                  • New clothes
                  • Outings to fancy shin digs
                  • Lavish anything
                  • This list is far from comprehensive
And if the wife and kids absolutely needed a break from fantastic WH food, spacious, airy WH accommodations and local attractions, etc. I would send them to one of the many breathtaking and relaxing destinations right here in the USA. If you're gonna spend that kind of coin on getaway, spend it here, don't redistribute our wealth (tax dollars) overseas.

Exactly. Just this alone would give any President support and show he understands the common American. Even though he's still treated extremely well.

Every halfway decent job has perks. This one does too, as it should. Compared to CEOs and the like, the president doesnt even make great money. Working the president like a 5 dollar hooker doesn't seem like its going to help are country either, bud.

The President is a leader more than anything else, and leading by example is a great way to console, calm and motivate your subordinates or in this case the American people. If the company I work for was cutting benefits, perks, and pay while increasing quotas and work hours, I would be a little upset if the CEO (not the owner) was spending company resources on remodeling his office or signing up for a golf tournament while employees are getting laid off. Does that make sense?

The Obamas made upward of 5 million last year, btw.

If we are using the example of CEOs anyway, even the most basic of management methods will tell you that keeping employees happy, at all levels. Its why you have the water cooler and the coffee machine in the break room. Its part of why sweat shop products suck. Take google for example, a fairly successful company. The perks there are HUGE for all employees. Pool tables, Gyms, lots of breaks and freebies, the list goes on..

Sure, it would be a good gesture for him to cut pay, and some of the perks, but i'm not convinced it would actually HELP the country aside from the kind gesture/ image.

Werd. Public Servants. In recent history people would take a pay cut if they went from the private sector to a Gov job.

Yes, it does, And i have said before that i think a little more discretion wouldn't hurt. Fwiw, alot of that 5mil came from books, hes still receiving the same amount for being president.

Still, i really cant get that upset about something like this when looking at our country as a whole. And, before joshh chimes in, its really not a slippery slope argument either.
