McCain was hardly the best way to market the party.

Palin was what really killed it. Everyone knew she'd be a broken hip or case of pneumonia away from the Presidency. And when she couldn't even come up with the names of the countries in NAFTA, well Jesus Christ. Personality trumps intelligence again and now the Tea Partiers have given her a platform. Every somewhat intelligent woman I know hates her. They'd love to get all mavericky on her winking, moose shooting ass.

I'd have taken McCain more seriously if it weren't for Palin, but at the time I was so pissed at Bush that it was really an uphill battle for them. The whole terrorist fear campaign was still going full-steam and I know he would have loved to run with that ball.
