    Does this make sense?

Amnesty International on Friday urged Saudi Arabian authorities not to paralyze a man as punishment for his having paralyzed someone else, allegedly during a fight.

Saudis want to use paralysis as punishment.

Its Shria law.................. it never makes sense to those of us that are civilized.

Eye for an Eye, worked well in the time of Hammurabi, 3000 years ago. It still looks like it would work well in theory, but in practice its just not practical.

I guess I'll be the degenerate caveman, even though severe capital punishment has a questionable record of deterring crime...................I like the idea.

For the worst of all offenders, yes I too support Capital punishment. But the conditions that go with it need to be narrow.

I don't see why an eye for an eye wouldn't work well today. Sure would teach a good lesson as long as its not the way they do it in the middle east. I mean getting a hand cut off for stealing is a bit excessive. This dude stabbed a man during a fight to paralyze him. Thats cheating

did this man start the fight????

was this man in fear of his life and bust out the knife to try and save it??????

              Was this guy just jumped?????

I mean there are tons of possibility and circumstances to consider and with out knowing them its really kinda a moot discussion. Just cuz he pulled the knife and stabbed this dude, does no make him wrong.

I have always wondered about that, with all the LAW that our govt's churn out every year how much of it we violate with out even knowing it every day.

I would hate to see someone have an eye for an eye applied for something he did that was a true accident.
Even some purposeful things there would have to be an out. Like self defense.

Intent? I doubt the guy wanted to paralyze the other guy. But they may have already determined that he did actually intend to paralyze...

Eye for an eye basically means that you can't ask for an arm to be cut off if you just had your finger severed. It doesn't mean you have to ask for an eye for an eye, just that you can't ask for more than what is fair.

The laws in this country are the same as the tax code, so so vague because there is so many. I call for a flat tax and eye for an eye punishment for all.

the scariest aspect of things like this is that there's no going back, it's permanent. So much for the appeals process! A lot of cases aren't totally cut an dry like that.
If it was more like, some dude raped 14 women or got busted stealing shit for the 10th time, then maybe some draconian law is justified.
Fallout from a street fight is just too hairy of a situation to be doing this.. like you guys said we don't know who started it, etc.

Or how the Crusades were a response to hundreds of years of Islamic conquests.

But again, let's not take this thread there.
